Pike let Saru be a dick for waaaaay too long. This was a very tense, sensitive, and unknown situation. No way it was appropriate for him to hijack that comms discussion, and even worse that Pike let it go.
Yeah, this was a problem. I think things are going to continue to get worse for Saru. They basically now have a teenager as First Officer.
I figured before something would have to eventually happen with Saru to make him not fit to be Captain Material, so that job can ultimately go to Burnham, but I didn't think this was the route they'd take. I thought him being too fearful would keep him from becoming a good Captain. I like being kept on my toes like this.
Hitting the instant-puberty button on the Kelpians seemed extraordinarily cavalier and knee-jerky. Like, "Kirk blowing up Vaal" levels of irresponsibility. It just didn't feel like it was well-considered enough to be a realistic solution to a very complex problem and long-standing planetary history.
I'm hoping this is just the set-up for something else and not where that particular story ends. The Kelpians are free from the Ba'ul's control over them, but now what?
