2. So the Ba'ul don't eat Kelpians? Then why were the Kelpians eaten in the Mirror Universe? That's actually kind of terrifying.

Although the Great Balance was a big lie, I'm not sure it was definitively established that the Ba'ul didn't also eat the Kelpiens they culled. Even if they didn't, assuming the Ba'ul perpetuated the same deception in the Mirror Universe, the Terran Empire might have taken them at their word that Kelpiens were good eatin'. I would guess that either the Terrans had worked out some kind of arrangement with the Ba'ul, who might have found it amusing to get rid of their perceived enemy by selling them off as a food source, or the Empire had simply wiped out the Ba'ul and kept the culling going themselves.

And in the Mirror Universe the Empress Georgiou used her moves to avoid assassination by rebellious Kelpiens' skull darts...

Some people on Twitter are worried reborn Culber lost his gayness along with his scars. I didn't get that vibe at all from the scene, just the standard sci-fi "back from the dead" existential crisis kicking in.
I agree. He just seemed pretty out of sorts.
Although I will admit that not being gay anymore would be kind of interesting idea, but I seriously doubt the writers would do that. I think it would be much more likely for something like Culber no longer has the same feelings for Stamets, but I don't think that's happening either.

I think he is seriously disassociating

Given both of the actor are out and proud - I seriously doubt 'and then because of the space aliens you wake up straight' would fly.

Leaving aside the stuff that neckbeards *think* is controversial - that would be actually controversial with real news papers and media sources. It would be a car crash with activist groups.

Yes, I agree. I hope I didn't imply that I think it would work without repercussion, only that I thought it was an interesting idea. I do think that that would only work if there were many more major changes to Culber. They of course aren't going to single out his sexual orientation as the only major thing that changed.

Do we think Culber will take the first shuttle to Vulcan to make sense of his emotional landscape? He's had the equivalent of a Near Death Experience, and often severe depression is reported upon returning. He's got a long recovery ahead.

Well, we've seen Starfleet ships have to drop shields to beam people back, be it from planets or whatever, so presumably the same applies. If knowing their own shield frequency doesn't do it for beaming up, why would it work for beaming down?
Depending on how the Shields work of course; they'd have to let 'outgoing Phaser energy through or a Fed ship wouldn't be able to fire Phasers with Shields up (and I don't think dropping them to fire Phasers is how it works ;)) - so yeah, one could make a case in 'Trek Tech' that you can beam out/down through shields, but not up.

Of course (per Star Trek TV physics) the "Needs of the Plot" principle will over-ride ANY of the above. ;)

One possible plot hole: how can Discovery communicate and send information to Saru when they are not able to locate him on sensors? After all, if Discovery's communication system and Saru's communication have linked up in order to transmit information back and forth, doesn't that require or imply a location?
The same way Spock could 'lock on' and get a visual signal (showing Romulans walking along on their Bridge on the Bird of Prey - including a nice steady close up of the Commander) while said Bird of Prey was still under cloak in TOS S! - "Balance of Terror" ;)

The Red Angel is going to turn out to be Bob. Not Klingon Bob, just Bob from across the street.

"Hey, guys!" "Hi, Bob."

Nah. It's Kirk from the Nexus--with a slimming suit (patent pending). Finally get that Shatner "return" everyone (someone?) has been waiting for.

Okay, that's just silly. No way are they going to do that, and that wasn't what that scene was implying at all. Your vibe-detector is functioning perfectly. :)

Re: the redressed set...

It's just more evidence that there is some galactic "Acme Corp." behind the scenes, selling equipment to all the technologically advanced species of the galaxy. It explains why the major powers had such similar ship interiors in TOS (right down to the red hex grating), why Eminian sonic disruptors were so similar to Klingon guns, why the refit Enterprise's torpedo bay looked like a poorly disguised Klingon battle cruiser bridge, and why a Romulan drone ship from the 22nd century was also in use by some Delta Quadrant species two hundred years later.

This Acme Corp. is heavily involved in galactic trade, but they're really secretive when it comes to direct contact. So that's why we never, ever see or hear anything from them.

Sounds rather Ferengi. Maybe Quark really meant what he said and got a hold of the technology to put all the empires back at war so Ferenginar could see the return to profit as the way to get into the Divine Treasury. As Grand Negus he should be able to afford it. Quark is the Red Angel.
