"When a new signal appears over Saru's home planet, Burnham, Saru and the crew embark on a perilous mission that puts Saru in danger and raises questions about the Red Angel's intentions. Hugh struggles to come to terms with his new reality." - Memory Alpha

Oh, so they're combining the Saru story with the the story about the mysterious signals. I was wondering when they were going to get back on track on that. The timing of the signal and Saru learning the truth about his people can't be a coincidence.

Loving how fierceom the Ba'ul appear. Seen so many generic villains, but a more inhuman and otherworldly enemy opens doors with a whole new personality for the Ba'ul to explore.

I think I'll do a rewatch of The Brightest Star and the relevant portions of An Obal for Charon before the episode drops.

Here's my way out there theory if the title refers to time travel of some kind:
The Ba'ul have the ability to see the future and the Kelpians destroy their civilization in the future so they've changed the past by enslaving and culling the Kelpians in order to save their race.

What is more likely to be the plot:
The effects of breaking the prime directive.

On Canadian TV, the time slot for this episode (with commercials) is 75 minutes long. The only one longer was Brother which had a time slot of 80 minutes. I'm thinking this episode's duration without commercials will be somewhere around 55 minutes.

Btw, every episode this season except for New Eden has been equal to or longer than the longest episode of Season 1.

...Why is it "Hugh" rather than "Culber"? (Much less "Dr. Culber"!)

Come to think of it, why was it always "Geordi" rather than "LaForge" in TNG blurbs? Is this some sort of a racial thing? (But isn't it always "Burnham" rather than "Michael"? You know, just as with "Tilly" rather than "Sylvia"?)

Inquiring/ignorant minds want to learn.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but maybe he's not a Doctor again yet since this is technically not the same Culber, but a mycelial copy.

I may skip over this episode and wait for Spock to show up next week, or whenever he does. Like the Ferengi centered episodes on DS9 I skip, this one with the Saru-ites or whatever they are is not appealing to me at all. I can't stand Saru and a whole episode full of others like him is probably something I'll never miss.
