Crazy collars in Corbomite Maneuver. Spock, Bailey and Sulu's collars are oversized in the first act. They seem to have shrunk by the time the ship encounters the Fesarius. Also Mr Leslie seems to be on the bridge in red and in the corridor in gold when Kirk makes his announcement.

Baileys's the sanest guy on the Bridge when they have ten seconds to live
Sulu's countdown would have pissed me off as well
Great episode with poorly functioning wardrobe department

From what I read on MA many of the costumes were re-purposed from the pilot.

Yeah, but it's not the sort of military mentality you want in the navigator on your starship. Have you ever heard the black box recording of a plane that's about to crash? Those pilots are cool as a cucumber seconds before they hit the ground. That's who you want manning your front console.

    Absolutely
But it wouldn't have been a stretch of the imagination that some of the crew were shitting it and thought "Fuck this"
    Like Bailey did.
The countdown was ludicrous in the extreme, in my humble opinion :techman:

I like that in so many situations like Bailey's blowup, both sides are realistic and understandable. We're sort of with Bailey, partway, then we see what real presence of mind is, and why we need it, from the others. We get to think about how we would react, and go through some self examination, and what a great formation experience for a kid, scenes like that!

I'm not sure he is holding it backwards. This was the first use of the phaser 1 prop, and it might not had anything (barrel/emitter) on its front, yet. It was like the ship's phasers, beams just appeared in front of the thing doing the shooting with no obvious means; very high tech if not magical. Lesser tech civilizations would think it is a weapon. It didn't "look" good on camera, so, they put a barrel on it?

You can see the thumbwheel on the wrong side in the head-on picture:

The hero prop had a barrel that extended when the thumbwheel was turned. It operated in conjunction with the sight pushing up the plate on the top. Shatner was probably told to turn it around on later takes, so it would look correct.

As @Henoch mentioned, it was the first use of the hand phaser prop, Shatner did a "quick draw" and probably didnt notice it was backwards.

Their instinct to ignore the mistake was correct, if I could watch the show 100 times over the years and never notice it. It wasn't worth re-shooting.

Agreed. "Corbomite" is one of my favorite episodes, this must have been at least the tenth time I've watched it in high def (plus countless viewings in the 35 years prior to getting the blurays) and I never noticed until now.
