And then in the next movie he seeks revenge, and promptly gets involved with someone else who is conveniently gone by the time of whatever movie follows that.

Bond can never be in a long term romance because it sort of goes against him basically being a swinger. All the women have to find him desirable and if they ever gender switch the role then it means all the guys will have to be into her. I mean without this and without the gadgets and over the top villian plots you might as well be doing a generic action movie.

And have they ever shown a female 00 agent? On the rare occasion Bond teams up that I can think of, it has been with a male 00, or an agent, male or female, from a foreign agency, or just some random ass Bond Girl tied to the situation at hand.

 

Actually, Moneypenny from the Craig films was introduced as Bond's backup agent. I think it was in Skyfall. I don't know if she was a 00, but she was a female agent partnered with Bond.

Wikipedia claims that one of the nine 00s seated in Thunderball was female according to behind-the-scenes photos, but it was not unambiguously evident on screen AFAIK, and I cannot confirm this.
