The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

I own two 4K TV's and two UHD players, and I was just shopping for a LaserDisc player on Ebay. My wife would likely kill me, because we have no room, but there are things on LD that I would like to own.

Sometimes it is about more than ultimate picture quality.

I thought Fox owned home video rights to the OT. Disney only gets the chance to do this with the purchase of Fox...

It really won’t matter once the deal closes. BUT, how it works as of today is that Disney owns all of the films. BUT distribution rights are currently owned by Fox. The distribution rights to five of the six films would revert to Disney in 2020. Fox currently owns the distribution rights to ANH in perpetuity. But with the deal where Disney purchases Fox including the rights to Star Wars set to close either next month or March, it’s all a moot point.

I still think the earliest we can see any type of new box set with the original six films (and the new three) will be next year.

If I counted the number of times I’ve bought the OT... lol...

I am just at 2. I bought the DVDs with the laser disc editions, never realized it was a big deal, and switched out for the Blu Rays.

I own Force Awakens and Rogue One, but I don't yet have Solo or Last Jedi, though I do want them.

I’ve owned:
  1. The “Faces” VHS
  2. SE VHS
  3. DVD
  4. DVD with bonus “theatrical cut”
  5. Blu-Ray
And I do own TFA and RO on Blu and TLJ and Solo on 4K.

Forgive my ignorance, but beyond the possibility of having films on LD that aren't available on UHD, what's the advantage here?

Part of it is getting films not available on other platforms and a bit of nostalgia.

One of the reasons I own a turntable. There’s some good shit not on CD or digital.

We have two, and a shitload of records. Including the recent re-release of the Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack and 2001: A Space Odyssey. :techman:

I really wanted the TMP rerelease. I have the extended album on CD but I’m not spending $80 on the record. I’m sad I missed it. But I do own the original 2001 pressing and the rejected Alex North score from Mondo.

I was able to grab it when it released and paid $43 with tax and shipping. No way I would spend $80 either.

I've owned a theatrical VHS, Special Edition VHS, and I have the first Special Edition DVD release. I also own the first DVD releases of the individual prequels, the Clone Wars movie, and the first two season of the series. I haven't bought anything since then since it's all on streaming Netflix now.

It's all about to leave Netflix though, so I guess you'll have to start buying :)

A bit on the topic of the OP, this blogpost discusses one person who hated Last Jedi and their personal journey regarding that hate. I don't expect it to change anyone's mind, but it was so interesting to see this perspective.

Oh good God, I'm not about to read that tome.

Yeah, that's a whole lotta words. I just read the first couple. Is it a joke? This seems like something written to satirize Star Wars fans.
