Apparently Andrew Robinson wasn’t a fan of mirror Garak because he was just a “dumb bad guy”.

I mean, he’s right - he’s not a patch on prime Garak at all - he was one of the things DS9 got right from early on (DS9 got a lot right from s1 relative to the other shows and had the best first season overall I think), whereas mirror Garak was a moron

But i guess he must have enjoyed the chance to be really over the top work Garak and behave in a way that “our” Garak never would. And Andrew Robinson is awesome no matter which Garak he’s playing :)

Mirror Garak struck me as more of a toady, a yes man to Worf. Which, certainly is not the nuanced or multi-layered Garak we would get to know, but we also wouldn't be presented the opportunity to get to know him.

In this way, as much as the MU is much revilled, one aspect of it that does work, if open to the idea, is the fact that the Prime counterpart's character will inform the response to the Mirror character. It isn't just a reflection of "good and evil" though it is often painted as such, and definitely gets played that way. But, if one is willing to dig past that, especially watching scenes such as Sisko and Mirror Jennifer, there is a depth to the reaction of the Prime character that can more inform their relationship with the Prime counterpart and more about the Prime character. Moreover, it can tell us more about what developed the Prime character in to who they are. I think that even Kelvin Kirk demonstrates this.

Below is a splash page between Prime and Mirror Spock in a comic book (it's alternate to what happens in either universe). I think it illustrates my point well:

Never thought I'd see a random page from The Mirror Universe Saga on here, but I approve!

Disco's version of the mirror universe reminded me a lot of that old comic series.

It is one of the best Mirror Universe stories, in my opinion, as well as an interesting alternate take on the Prime Universe.

And further proves that Styles is a total asshole. Also, it's more believable that Spock wouldn't be able to influence the Empire as completely as DS9 would have us believe.

Like the OP, I too tried to avoid this sub-forum and its spoilers for an entire year (although some things were revealed via thread titles when perusing Recent Posts). I knew the show was controversial and divisive in regards to its continuity and canon, so I was wary and skeptical but wanted to keep an open mind, esp. since a lot of inconsistencies can be rationalized away given enough creative mental gymnastics from a global fandom :bolian:. But FINALLY my Blu-rays have arrived and I can enjoy new Trek television, and it feels great. I'm only 3 episodes in but so far am THOROUGHLY enjoying this series! The toughest part is pacing myself since it will be another year before Season 2 arrives for me.

I also enjoy the fact that Spock is not completely OK or recovered from the katra transferred. Plus seeing MU Romulans :D

Did the OP ever come back to comment in this thread or did watching the show make him feel embarrassed for jumping the gun?

There was a warning a few page back about spoilers. He likely left at that point.

I hope he comes back. But -- if I had to guess -- due to the Holiday, he might not have had time to watch the rest yet.

I'm now 6 episodes in and, sorry, it has to be the weakest of all of the Treks. Even Enterprise - on occasion (mostly season 4) - had better writing, acting and effects. I'll stick with it because I've been looking forward to the Mirror Universe stories, but I'm not hopeful of a major improvement.

The biggest mistake they made, in my eyes, was to kill off Philippa Georgiou and give us Gabriel Lorca instead.

It's also hard to take it seriously as a prequel to the original Kirk series as the technology is clearly way in advance of anything that Kirk et al possessed, but I suppose this is the danger of making a prequel to a 1960's show in 2017/18.

Supposed to hate it? Only if you like STAR TREK... Whatever this is, (being completely un-related to the show I have watched for 53 years-) this STD is Poison. (They think so too, else,.. why all the changes? Why the second full season re-shoot, in as many seasons?!! The guy in charge LAST YEAR, NOTORIOUSLY HATED STAR TREK, ALL SCI-FI IN FACT. (Cancelled Enterprise, just it it got good..) and hated the FANs even more, deciding things to spite them literally, VERBALLY.
No. That is NOT what TREK was and IS

It's all in the name: 'Trek' means Adventure, 'Wars'.... means... ... wars,.. You are a STAR WARS type, or you would know better! That this is not even in the Star Trek CATEGORY!

I bet you work for CBS and your entire post is a Marketing Ficton!

Oh, I liked her,.. Minus the unruly anti-Trek witch that killed her, it could have been good! They went Testosterone and SJW (a very strange ANTIFA-like direction I thought...) Obscene. Unwatchable. They can't even SPEAK (or EXPRESS.....) in the poorly done makeup! Just AWFUL.. When does Orville premiere LOL ;")... (really... )

First off, take 250 CCs of Decaf and turn off the Caps Lock key, stat. Secondly, this is a load of half-baked political nonsense that has jack shit to do with anything in the show or what you're replying to. Thirdly, don't call people paid plants of CBS (King Daniel excepted because of the avatar). Knock it off.

Infraction for trolling. Comments to PM.

So if you like Discovery you must be a Star Wars fan, not a Star Trek fan? Yeah... I'm not a Star Wars fan. I don't dislike it, but it's not my thing overall.

Anyway. Ever watch DS9? That series gradually built up to a war that was the focus of its final two seasons. You're a Freemason if your username is anything to go by, so ask one of your friends in the Lodge about it.

Yesterday, I finally saw "The Vulcan Hello."

Overall, the bones seem to be good, although bald HemQuch, in an era when most Klingons encountered by Humans are QuchHa' . . . and Klingons not simply taking the bodies out with the trash . . . .

Do I correctly understand that the lone broadcast consisted of "The Vulcan Hello," cliffhanger ending and all?!?
