The stuff he paid for with his own money was in the past. The relocation, expanded sets and unreleased episodes were all raised by fan Kickstarter money. This whole thing is not right.

As far as I recall only one episode remains unreleased, and the total raised on KS was 50 grand?

Am I recalling any of the facts incorrectly?

Far be it for me to cast shade on any fan film production, even though you yourself are attempting to cast shade on my character, Jedi_Master.

To answer your point, ALL fan film producers put their own funds into their productions. If they're fortunate, they'll have folks donate to help defray the costs. However, the fact remains that funds specifically collected for particular episodes were not used to produce those episodes which remain unreleased (currently counted as 3 or 4, depending on which source you accept). Mr. Cawley is not alone in this. To date, the Axanar fan film has not been made. The same is true of many other fans films, such as "Captain Pike" and "First Frontier" where fans have collected monies and then never produced anything. How they spent the monies is unimportant to me. (Mr. Cawley and Mr. Peters both spent monies on their studios, one ostensibly for "for profit" film making, one for "for profit" museum set tours.)

As far as my presence on the "Fan Film Forum" goes, I belong to many groups to promote our films including TrekBBS and probably a dozen fan film forums on Facebook. Our involvement on those boards/forums helps us reach fans that we hadn't reached before. I'm sorry, but I think it's more important to be inclusive and open rather than a hater.

Everyone’s welcome to their view, but this post cost you a fan.
    Moving on.

Cawley's group never released "Origins: The Protracted Man" and "Bread & Savagery" [EDIT and "Torment of Destiny"]. According to the late GSchnitzer, the former was only partly shot, and I don't know if any fundraising was done for it. I can't speak to the rest. I can't off the top of my head think of other shows they raised money for and didn't deiver, but they made so many announcements of intended shows that I can't keep them all straight.

I will say that one of several reasons I got involved with finishing "The Tressaurian Intersection" was so that all the donors would finally get the show they were promised.

I hadn't seen that before, but he doesn't really address the multiple episodes they left unfinished. Then again, I don't recall which episodes he raised money for.

I remember one time he completely refilmed a completed episode while going against the wishes of one of the original writers and scrapping every bit of footage a whole lot of people put in time and effort for free.

I am 100% positive that some of his sets were built with kick-started funds. I don't think he built his engine room until he heard about STC's. Almost nothing new was filmed after the set relocation and expansion. The bulk of NV's filmography was filmed previously.

At this point I'd just be happy to see Torment of Destiny released someday especially since it has the late Richard Hatch in it. I don't really care about the whole set tour issue but I do see why Mr. Cawley does. There really is room enough for both of them and I'd love to visit the much closer Continues set.

"Mind Sifter". I don't recall the particulars of that reshoot, but I recall a lot of bad blood with Patty Wright over it and the script that got changed (it wasn't good, but then, neither was the script of what they eded up releasing).

That sounds right to my admittedly faulty recollection.

All of the fundraising for the expanded sets was done with the expectations that they would be used to continue to make Star Trek full length fan films.

I don't see how Ray having a free open house once a year has any effect on anyone else. James set look fantastic. Its not even close. Ray will never have the big Star Trek names to headline anything. I still think its more about the sets being built and used for STC than anything else.

I think it's this, exactly. James' tour is about being on the Enterprise. Ray's tour is about being on a television set. Similar settings, different experiences and points of view.

In the article, Mr. Cawley states a rough cut of the final episode was released on Youtube.
Has anyone seen it? I tried to search for it, but could not find it.

You know that scene from Roger Rabbit where the baby drops something and crys? We should super impose Cawleys head onto that and caption it with 'When someone else makes fan films'.

Or, we could act mature, even when we think other people are behaving immaturely (that's not claiming that anybody is acting immaturely, by the way).

The topic IS about what James Cawley says and I think it's fair to discuss and even question what he claims. There's no denying he raised money for a stated use then not only didn't deliver, but has the whiff of having spent the donations on what has turned into a commercial venture. I can see how some will—understadably—look askance at that. It's one thing to donate to a failed cause, it's another to feel like the funds were used for someone else's monetary gain.
