I didn't have any problems with the CGI of Peter Cushing in Rogue One. This, however, is nightmare inducing...

It's not so bad for a fan made thing...so long as you just click play and don't go fullscreen.

I've finally got around to watching it, rating is slightly under a meh. If we say acceptable is a C then this would be around a D.
Anyway quick question and I can't remember everyone's names so bare with me.
Han and co need to get some Bacta for Paul Bettany. Han suggests going to the Spice mines for it. (First this was a bit clunky way of getting the Kessel run in, could we not just have been after spice? Or would the implications of Han being a drug runner been too strong?) Now Paul shoots this idea down because he has a non aggression pact with the mine owners. If he steals their stuff it could start a gang war he can't afford. So Han and Woody say that they aren't part of his gang so can have a go at stealing it and if they get caught it won't reflect badly on Paul.
However before they go on their mission Paul insists on them taking his right hand woman who is branded with his mark along with them. Surely there goes the rogue pirate angle? Right? Did I miss something (quite possible). I know he wants to keep an eye on them but...

I've watched Solo a lot in the last few weeks. The Kid did alright.

You know, if he had been in another movie and doing this schtick, people would have said he was "doing" Harrison Ford. (Especially Star Wars Ford.)

You'll never mistake the two in a line up. But he gets the cadences right. He pitches his voice right (before Ford put on a hundred pounds and his voice dropped to where he was trying to talk to begin with). He carries himself the right way.

The man did a bang up job.

...did you just say that Harrison Ford is so fat, that he can barely speak?

    Whenwhatwhen?

I will need to rewatch the film but part of the bluff is that Qi'ra is a high class lady looking to engage in trade. So, the story can simply be one of coercion by Beckett and Solo in order to get access to high profile loot. If they fail, all Bettany has to say is "They captured one of my lieutenants and forced her to cooperate. She played along to hopefully sabotage their plans." Then Solo and Beckett are killed and no one is the wiser.

Ah, still seems a little clunky and like logically he should have sent someone else in her place but story dictated otherwise but thanks for that.

Given that villain's tendencies to rage, I doubt logic was foremost on his mind.

I think I said that his voice was a little higher in his Star Wars / American Graffiti days and that he was considerably skinnier before training for Temple of Doom / turning 40.

I finally saw it a few days ago. The trailer did nothing for me and it seemed like a pointless idea but I ended up liking it more than I expected. I watched it the same night I watched Skyscraper which I was really excited for and let down by. It's ironic to say I liked Solo better than Skyscraper. It got a bit confusing towards the end but aside from that, It's 3 for 4 out of Disney Star Wars. :bolian:

No, I loved The Force Awakens and Rogue One. The Last Jedi was rather meh for me.

Holy crap, I might actually buy that movie if they did that  (especially if they had Ford dub over Wooden McShitactor as well).

I just finished watching the movie on Blu-ray, and I really wish I'd had the opportunity to see it in a theater, because it would've made the experience even more epic.

I don't know what was 'off' about Lawrence Kasdan's writing on The Force Awakens, but Solo was everything that I wanted that movie to be: straightforwardly thematically and rhythmically consistent with the rest of the franchise whilst simultaneously offering something new.

Alden Erehnreich was absolutely spectacular as Han, rightfully bringing his own acting style to the role whilst still making it believable that the Han we see here is very much the character player by Harrison Ford, and the cast they surrounded him with were equally excellent across the board.

I was especially taken with Emilia Clarke's Q'ira, who reminded me of Eva Green's Vesper Lynx mixed with the Legends character of Shada D'ukal, and I really hope Lucasfilm finds a way to bring her back and continue the story they set up with her betrayal of Han and rise in the ranks of Crimson Dawn.

Donald Glover was also great as Lando, although I do wish he'd followed Alden's lead in not trying to deliberately 'channel' Billy Dee Williams and had instead made the role more 'his'; I did really enjoy his relationship with L3, though, and love that they made her part of the Falcon, although it does make me wish that there were 'deleted scenes' from TESB and RotJ where he and she were 'reunited'.

All in all, I really enjoyed Solo, and sincerely hope that, in the aftermath of Episode IX, Lucasfilm will choose disregard the fact that it didn't meet monetary expectations and continue the story it set up in some fashion.

My head says C but my gut says C+ yet my heart says B-.

I will give a golf clap to Ron and Alden. They did their best in a tuff situation. I also minorly dig the old school vibe of the script by Larry Kasdan & Son.

Even young Ford's voice was considerably lower than Alden's. When Alden forgets to lower his voice (or is unable to due to yelling), we hear his natural register which then makes the overall vocal performance uneven. The higher voice and being 5 inches shorter than Ford were distracting to me. But more importantly, Ford is just naturally more of a macho guy than Alden. Granted, it's a near-impossible part to recast, but I don't think Alden was the ideal choice. Not his fault, he did the best he could.

I had literally zero problems with Ehrenreich. All of my problems with Solo and why it earned a C from me in this poll can be traced to the script.

That said, I enjoyed watching Glover as Lando more.
