I'll be honest. I loved The Last Jedi, but the Poe Hix scene bothered me for one reason. It wasn't the joking around, it was using the word "tooling" which is modern slang. All the other movies sctrictly avoided using modern terminology (hydro spanners and the like) so the use of one 21st century slang term pulled me out of the movie a little, but that was a minor complaint.

Star Wars has always been using real world imagery, even back in ANH. The Death Star battle is basically WWII aviation combat and tactics.
It's actually a fairly accurate recreate of the film "Dambusters"

Ok, this is an argument and a complaint that I'm going to have for the rest of my life. Solo was awesome.

I don't know what people's complaints about it - as a concept - are. Does it try to answer questions that I never needed answered? Well, yes. The worst of these is "Solo" isn't his real name. Whatever. It's less than 30 seconds. Han getting the Falcon is pretty good and Lando is terrific.

But what the rest of the movie is: It's a movie about a scoundrel with a heart of gold running around and getting into and out of scrapes with a talented cast that I want to see more of. I would go see this movie even if it wasn't a Star Wars movie. Call it Firefly. Call it Guardians of the Galaxy (only you have to add more jokes from a sixth grader).

The worst thing about the movie is the lighting. In the theater it was almost unseeable. At home it's merely too dark. Look, I'm sorry that you're upset about Donald Trump. Turn on the damn lights.

But otherwise it's a fun ride. And it's a fun Star Wars ride! After all of the complaints that The Force Awakens was a remake of Star Wars (it wasn't) or that The Last Jedi was The Last Jedi (I liked it) or that Rogue One -- um, whatever people complained about Rouge One about, Solo was A STAR WARS STORY. It was like reading the old Brian Daley books! It was like watching live action Rebels! It was an adventure with HAN SOLO!

And now we won't get any more. One Serenity. One Rocketeer. One Solo. TANJ.

You want to hear/read something fun? In TPM, Kitser says "This is so wizard, Anni..." regarding the podracer. It turns out, "Wizard" is WW1 pilot slang. So, Star Wars has been using Earth based slang for a while.

But that was slang from 80 years before the movie was made. I wasn't aware of it, I would argue most of the movie going audience was probably not aware of it, so there was less yanking from the movie's reality. In Empire, for example, Kasdan (or maybe Lucas) made up slang, "Scruffy looking Nerf herder," as opposed to using "asshole" or anything of the like. But again it was one small moment that I bumped on a little bit and it did not really hinder my enjoyment of the movie.

True. I just thought it was a fun bit of trivia.

In a similar way, Han's "Then I'll see you in hell!" comment on Hoth stood out to me. It seemed like such an odd statement. But, the Poe one apparently didn't because I can't remember the line.

I'll admit, re-watching the movie on Blu-ray it woks better than it did in theatres in the spring. The lighting had a lot to do with that, as mentioned above on the theatre screen it was near impossible to make anything out. On TV it's still very dark, but I was able to properly see things, and that certainly made a difference in how I was able to follow the film. Though I got to say, the story still doesn't feel grand enough for a Star Wars movie, it certainly has its merits.

So that’s what they turned the lights off in the HISHE video when Ron took over. I didn’t get that.

Honest Trailers said it looked like the cast must be in the witness protection program! Ha!

You know, I am far less sad that Han doesn't end up with Qi'ra than I am about the ending between Han and Becket.

Odd off-topic request: for those who have purchased the blue ray of Solo: can anyone confirm / PM me please, how many ion exhausts the Heavy TIE fighter has please - and where these are placed?

I may be misremembering - did this TIE have x3 ion exhausts (red dots on rear of starfighter) or x2?

Any confirmation would be much appreciated (PS I’ve been creating a custom Hasbro Titanium diecast of this particular TIE, hence my questions).

:)

Thanks in advance!
