If you mean classic DW, I doubt they catered for commercial breaks at all. If you mean other shows, such as TNG, that aired first on channels with commercials, yes, the breaks are a lot more obvious. I expect the script has to be written with pacing that takes breaks into consideration. However, I have no knowledge of how production deals with such things. When I watched shows in the US, the placing of commercial breaks often seemed quite random and disruptive.

I meant in general, not Doctor Who.

Yeah add me to the list of worried people. Next week will either be good or a stinker, or just plain off. Putting such a historical character into a scifi setting could go sideways.
It could, but it could go the other way too.

I've not particularly liked the two episodes we've had so far and a change might be a good thing.

Could still be stand alones until the final episode, which be default would also be a standalone due to only a few key phrases tying things in.

I know. I know. Semantics and word play, but you'd think after 7 years with Moffat, we'd be use to it! Lol
I'm less concerned about repeating Moffat shenanigans than I'm concerned of Davies shenanigans, especially they said there wouldn't be any kind of arc. But if it's just a few hints here and there without being forceful and existing for the sake of being a reference, than I'm fine with it.

My concern is that they're going to rely on the "Rosa was a tired old woman who sat in the front of the bus as a soft protest" which is the sort of "friendly" projection of the event that many American schools have relied on for many years and not that Rosa was an activist who was engaged in a political action. Also, concerned about white savior.

The good news is they hired Malorie Blackman to write the episode (with Chibnall snagging a co-writer credit) so I think it should successfully navigate a lot of the waters. It's really just the presentation of what happened - and what the sci-fi threat is - that's somewhat concerning.

This episode was more "find the TARDIS" with a pinch of "evil bastard has evil contest that kills people on dangerous planet" trope.

There were some good bits but we have seen this story many, many, many times before. It was handled well enough but the Sniper bots that took their training from the Storm Troopers was laughable to the point of embarrassing. Killer sentient rags, WTF?.

But the moment the TARDIS let her in was the only reason to watch the episode. I like the new TARDIS and now that they are back together I'm hoping the stories get much better. While I like the "timeless child" hint I just hope it pans out to be worth the wait. Loving Jodi as the Doctor but the stories need a big uptick in quality.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't have minded if they were looking for the TARDIS the whole time. It might've even been a nice tribute to Tom Baker's first season and all. But I guess that'd be too risky for this day and age.

Yes, they did, at least in the early years. Since they marketed the show overseas to broadcasters that did use commercials, they always put a fade out/fade in halfway through each episode as a natural break point.
Ok - I've never consciously noticed the fade out/in but I'll be on the lookout now. Thanks.

You know, everybody's assuming the Timeless Child has to be a known character or connected to known characters... but we know from Chibnall's interviews that he's not reusing any classic villains or monsters, going with new ones throughout, so why should this be any different? If he wants to introduce new villains, maybe he also wants to add a new twist to the Doctor's mythology. Davies gave us the Time War and the origin of the Master; Moffat gave us the War Doctor and folded Clara into the Doctor's past; now I wouldn't be surprised if Chibnall wanted to add something new as well.

Wishful thinking and the feeling that there have been so many missed opportunities for Susan. Is that so bad?

Yeah, Chibnall probably wants to add something of his own to the mythology, but there's no harm hoping for otherwise.

As well, watching it from iTunes on my AppleTV, I noticed some "jumping" every so often, like a bad PAL/NTSC conversion.
I'm noticing this too, on both episodes so far. Amazon has motion smearing, and Vudu looks choppy. It wasn't this bad in past seasons. It's driving me nuts!

'The Timeless Child' could be a description of The Doctor herself, psychologically. The Doctor has been shown seeing and exploring some things the way a child does... with awe and amazement. Like a kid in a candy store. And having the TARDIS makes her a person nit belonging to any time, really.

(I realize that many adults would also be awed and amazed at seeing the things that The Doctor has, but there are a lot of times where it really feels like childlike wonder.)

Just a thought.

She did seem to be annoyed at the phrase being spoken out loud, having been ripped from her mind, so I assume it's a reference to something she would rather keep private.

I thought her reaction was confusion because she didn't know what the Remnant was talking about.

A bit of a meh episode. The storyline is standard Who fare, predictable even. It's saved somewhat by the character interactions and providing more insight into the new Doctor and companions. There appears to be something being set-up, be a bit interesting to see where that goes.

I enjoyed the episode, though like a lot of folks I found the Doctor's "no guns" diatribe a bit OTT. I did, however, love Jodie's performance when they got to the top and found that the TARDIS wasn't there; she really nailed that crestfallen moment. But of course it came back, ta-daah! Her reunion with it, giving it a hug as she examined its new look was wonderful too.

I like the updated exterior, though the interior generally speaking might take a few eps to get used to. I think having the interior of the "police box" as the vestibule is a cool idea, but having the rear exterior sign visible is just weird. The big crystal in the console is kind of ugly. Did it actually do anything when they started to travel? I'll have to watch again.

Another thing I noticed was her new sonic hardly seems to make a sound. Every time she whips it out and uses it I keep expecting to hear a whirring sound like we've always had, but I can barely hear anything.

As for the title sequence...I like it, but I wish it was longer and that the theme itself had a wee bit more oomph. I do like the classic vibe to it though.

At this point, Graham's my favourite of the Doctor's new companions.
