Why has Tuvok vis his was surgically altered? Star trek is nog ruined FOREVER!
But i think it's a good thing to have different looking Vulcans/ other aliens, i still thing that Saavik looked great with long hair so why not a Vulcan with a beard?

When you think about it, it's really not...logical...that Vulcan men shave at all. It's a waste of time in the beginning of the day which could be put to better use.

Of course, Vulcan women wear makeup and outfits which go beyond mere functionality as well. So aesthetic preferences, while not governed by logic, must not be considered "emotion" by Vulcans.

I’ll say. Have you seen their priestesses?
I wonder if there’s a yin yang thing in their culture.

Infinite diversity in infinite combinations is as far as you can get from two opposing equal forces.

I was kinda thinking that the ‘religious/necessary emotion’ is seen as a feminine domain, while the ‘education/pure logic’ the masculine. Not strictly ‘male/female’ but that’s why you get things like the ware Theiss tribute priestesses. Kind of classical thematically.

Vulcan priests are about manipulating Katras.

Katra's were Orwelled for a few centuries until the founding of the Federation.

So it's a new, and less than an ancient thing to play with.

If people are hating the beard, hipster look they are going to really hate the "Future is Female" t-shirt he will also be wearing. But even that will go over better than his assortment of bongs he carries in a backpack.

What is it with the hipster/beard thing anyway? Something like 60% of all American men over 20 don't shave on a daily basis.

Beards have been a norm for a while now.

Because Beatnicks,Hiippies,Slackers,Grunge,Emo's are names already taken.

It is the future, so the present is female, like that time Archer was given three Orion Slave Girls as a present.

You know the fans have their priorities straight when the primary concerns are Klingon hair and Vulcan beards.

I think the Klingon lack of hair and Spock having a beard are two distinct things, especially when this is supposed to be the same universe as TOS. Imagine if Spock showed up completely hairless and they told us that is the way he is supposed to be going forward?

The lack of Klingon hair (though as its own universe, Discovery having more alien Klingons doesn't bother me) alters the species in a way that really isn't reconcilable with the rest of "Prime" Trek. Prime Spock having a beard really doesn't alter anything down the road, beyond maybe the character not liking facial hair because he's never had any before. Even going through Kolinahr, he managed to figure out a way to shave.

Uhm, is it? It is rather easy to get rid of hair and at no point did Discovery say that Klingons were physically incapable of growing it, so I don't find it unreconcilable at all.

They can rewrite it, but the whole point was to make the Klingons more alien. That is why every single one of them is hairless.

one of those star trek self help books from yonks ago (A Warriors Guide?) said that after a famous Warrior from history was yanked by his beard during a fight, and lost, he cut his beard off the next day. All the other Klingons called him a wussy for cutting his beard off, and then decided that every one clean shaven is a total coward, and therefore the bigger, and more yankable, anyone's beard, the braver they are seen to be by their peergroup.

Okay, but that's BTS reasons, none of which are directly relevant for what's reconcilable and what not. I mean, if you'd use BTS reasons you could argue that DSC season 2 isn't in the same universe as season 1 because the creators wanted to make the Klingons more aliens in s1 and now they don't want that anymore.

It is relevant in it shows that there is no real vision behind-the-scenes, and it shows in the show itself. Which is bad for an arc-based show. Plus, we have no proof that whatever changes they have in mind, include hair.

We'll get novels and fan theories that try to explain T'Kuvma and his followers as all part of some strange religious Klingon cult, that will entirely overlook the fact that every representative seen from the 24 Houses were also hairless, every Klingon on Kronos were also hairless.

As in all things, your mileage may vary.

They’ve been saying since even before Season 1 aired that these Klingon’s have hair.

They’ve just given different reasons why they didn’t in season 1.
