Looks like we will have a fully bearded Lieutenant Spock on Discovery

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...

It's like they're trolling Trek purists.

Why don't they give him a nose-ring, ear gauges, and an IDIC neck-tattoo while they're at it?

If you have to ask, you won't understand.
How can you expect your opinion to be taken seriously, when you post inane drivel like this?

It's mirror Spock. All the characters will eventually be revealed as mirror ones.

But on a serious note, this is obviously how he first appears. All the anti-beard dudes should calm down, I am sure he will shave when he gets a chance. Vulcans having facial hair is not a canon violation.

When they go after every little thing at every single turn they have to start to realize it's weakening their position. Sometimes they might have a point that I agree with but is it a specific point that's part of a targeted and specific criticism or is it -- to mix metaphors -- them attacking everything in sight, throwing everything against the wall, and then it's a case of even a broken clock is right twice a day?

I'm leveling this toward anyone who attacks everything about any series, not just DSC. It just happens to be Discovery's turn up at the bat.
Thing about the beard on Spock and even his longer hair, (not so bowl cut) is it creates a different reaction. He evokes more ruggedness and humanity. That's probably what they are going for in that his link with humanity and his sister being human is going to be a big part of the story. I suspect I'm reading too much into it or projecting even, but Spock in The Cage was a different persona to TOS, more emotions... We are bridging to that Spock, not the more 'disciplined' Spock on the Enterprise.

And then the after death/rebirth Spock was a different guy, at least for a while. More human.

He was kind of icy again by TNG, maybe due to outliving almost everybody he knew.

We got a different Spock in TMP as well...the "just out of Kolinhar" guy.

Nimoy always looked about a day or two away from a beard in a lot of TOS episodes. Spock probably has to shave twice a day.

Hey they're Just emulating TNG (like all the 24 Century TNG er5a fans want):

Looks good, if you ask me.
Same here. New avatar time!
You know the fans have their priorities straight when the primary concerns are Klingon hair and Vulcan beards.

Yes sir indeed, it's a visual medium. :klingon:
Is it really impossible to imagination their being variation in species and personal style?

I mean, I used to work for a company that forbid beards as part of dress code. Guess what I did while on vacation? Grew a beard. Then shaved it after 9 days off. It ain't that hard.
I hope we get scenes set in a klingon hair salon, where we see L'rell getting her hair and nails did and gossiping with the girls at the salon.
Im writing a strongly worded letter if it doesn't happen. The fans deserve to know!!!!!
That's what petition.org is for.

Whats wrong with him just not wanting to shave for a bit?

Or not having the ability to for some reason.

Yeah, that's my guess. It seems when they pick him up he's not doing so well. And we know he's been isolated on some sort of quest. He might have just not had the time or ability to shave for a few weeks.

When you think about it, it's really not...logical...that Vulcan men shave at all. It's a waste of time in the beginning of the day which could be put to better use.

Of course, Vulcan women wear makeup and outfits which go beyond mere functionality as well. So aesthetic preferences, while not governed by logic, must not be considered "emotion" by Vulcans.

When I double exposed this beard onto shouty shaggy Cage Spock, I was surprised at how easy it was to do. While I don’t think this actor looks particularly like Nimoy, the overlay was almost 1:1.
