On a heavy jacket concealing Roxanne Dawson's pregnancy bump.
Some knickknacks they used on a jacket to cover Roxann Dawson's pregnancyOkay then... I wasn't sure if it was something significant since I didn't notice that prior to that scene.
Alrighty... so I just started Retrospect rewatch and lo and behold there's the bling in B'Ellana's pocket/breastplate again. I clearly did not pick up on these details first time around. and they do simply look like engineering tools (and nerdy ones at that). No wonder my visual brain deemed them irrelevant crap originally, ha ha.
But they appear to have pockets. ... that's what's relevant.

Well, yes of course, and I was getting a little silly there. But if the uniforms actually have pockets, then what are the actors complaining about? And if they don't have pockets, then how are those nerdy tools staying in place? (I think they're sewn onto the fabric) . Anyhow- all rhetorical questions that really don't need an answer.
Real life answer...the costumes don't have pockets. Star trek is very into crisp lines in their uniforms hence no pockets and the stirrup panta that the actors hate...also the reason for the picard maneuver. Belannas tools were sewn in to make it look more practical on screen. You learn a lot at conventions
Actually Ethan Phillips had a pocket and he would keep his teeth in it between scenes
There are practical reasons pregnancies are rarely written into shown for the character....after married with children it is rarely done
I always assumed the in-universe explanation was that she modded her uniform (probably in a mild violation of regs) because she had a rebellious streak. Chakotay just overlooked it, and Janeway left it to him as first officer.
Or then Torres indeed had something to hide... Either from Janeway and the rest, or then from her husband, too. And did well there, until "The Killing Game" where the Hirogen exposed the whole thing. Fortunately, everybody there was so doped they didn't realize what they were seeing. Unfortunately, they thought the bump was a fake, and nobody batted an eyelid when it was made to disappear at the end of the holocharade!

I'm usually oblivious to most pregnancy cover ups. Until someone else points it out or I read about it online then I'm like yeah it's super obvious!
I'm acutally watching Frasier for the first time and they're covering up Daphne's real life pregnancy by making the character fat and I hate that. I think it comes off quite mean to the character and I bet as the actress it probaby sucked for her. I have no problem when shows use the big bags, bulky clothing, and hiding behind prop tricks. As a viewer I can pretend it away.
