DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

LOL. That's not a reliable outlet.

Forbes writer Mark Hughes is the (strangely uncredited) source of the New York Post's reporting.

These theories have only grown in recent months, and a frenzy sparked online when Forbes writer Mark Hughes took to Twitter to reveal an inside look at the DCEU.

When the reporter was asked by a fan about Affleck’s part in The Batman, Hughes said the actor wasn’t involved. “He's not Batman in this movie. As of now, there are no plans to involve Affleck, and the situation behind the scenes is that he's been arranging his exit from the DCEU for months,” the reporter explained.

“I know fans hate to hear this, but it's time to prepare yourselves for Batman without Affleck,” the reporter added.

Hughes was asked a follow-up question about whether his note was an official one. The writer hedged, saying he couldn't make any official statements since he is not affiliated with Warner Bros., but Hughes stressed the debacle isn't a hard one to see coming.

"I can't 'officially' declare anything since I'm not at WB," the writer continued. "But we've all known this was coming and have been saying it for months, it's not really new. I ran an article on it a couple of months ago."

What the fuck? The first DCEU movies were box office hits. And two of them made over 800 million dollars. One made over 700 million and a fourth film made over 600 million. Not even the MCU's first phase was this profitable. Yes, the two Iron Man movies made over 600 million dollars, but Phase I also featured THREE films that under performed - something which so many people are unwilling to acknowledge. Kevin Feige should have thanked his lucky stars that "The Avengers" was such a big hit.

Well obviously in WB's eyes they weren't a 'hit' enough for WB to keep to its initial; plans of all their 'stand alone' films (IE their shelving of the "Cyborg" stand alone for now); changing the Justice league film to NOT have Darkseid in it - or set it up for that sequel; and the fact they seem to be shelving Superman too in favor of Supergirl.

If WB was happy with the ROI on all this, they'd be forging ahead in the same way Marvel Studios did to build up the MCU to the point it's at today. But they're not - they're constantly trying to find their 'safe formula' and are not willing to gamble and they obviously feel that their BO on the DCEU films should have equaled or exceeded their MCU counterpart films (IE Justice League should have at least topped the 1 Billion mark worldwide like the original MCU Avengers - except it didn't so WB execs are scambling to try and find out why <--- (Hint: maybe if they built up the individual characters in stand alone films beforehand...)

You're pissed because Superman killed Doomsday and not Wonder Woman? Seriously? When she was barely holding on to him with her lasso? You did notice that . . . right?

The public mourned Superman in that manner because he had just given his life to save the world from Doomsday. Remember?
Where did I say I was pissed? Again, I do consider it a plothole that Superman had to use the weapon that emits radiation that would kill him - when Wonder Woman could have done it - and they BOTH would have lived.

edited again for a big typo. ;)

At this point I would like a 1970s Batman period piece movie. Blue and grey Batman, true detective type story, very Neal Adams inspired...pure pipe dream, but if done well would be cool.

Now the other shoe drops.

Affleck is reportedly out as well

https://nypost.com/2018/09/12/ben-a...ollowing-henry-cavills-rumored-superman-exit/

I think this 5 year odyssey has taken it's toll on Affleck

-First he was denounced by the fans
-Then his portrayal was met with huge praise but BVS didn't do astronomical numbers like WB hoped. This causes Affleck to fall into a depression
-Then he puts his blood and tears into Justice League. That was panned by fans.
-The guy is broken and not that enthusiastic.

He wanted to put out a great movie but there were alot of obstacles

I don't think Affleck really put it all in with Justice League.. an experienced actor knows a good script when he reads it and for some reason i'm convinced that Affleck knew JL would bomb critically. However he was under contract and he would be paid very well so why rock the boat.

Affleck's Batman was great and in a different way as good as Bale's Batman. Bale just had the fortune to star in movies that were extremely well written storywise and had great villains to play off on, chief amongst them the legendary Joker performance by Ledger.

Affleck's Batman took a cue from an older version that's been hardened and possibly disillusioned by years on the streets, not unlike Bale in Dark Knight Returns but Affleck didn't have the fortune to capitalize on that further as his character was constrained by DC to work as a team up movie (and a badly written one).

I would have loved to see an Affleck Batman solo movie that expanded on that and get it right much like Wonder Woman got it right casting AND story wise. Unfortunately DC still hasn't understood that huge CGI fights are not nearly enough to keep an audience nowadays, the movies have to respect the characters and make them believable (as much as Superheroes can be believable) before they throw them into huge fights.

However given the recent news i think DC is panicking and yanking hard on the rudder in hopes to be both critically AND financially successful (none of their DCU movies breaking the billion barrier whereas Marvel has 6). I hope DC can relaunch it well but i am pessimistic, their movies just don't have that right mix of story, character and humor that Marvel has perfected and i hope they will find that soon.

It certainly is not the fault of their property.. many more people around the world know who Superman or Batman are than they knew about Captain America or Iron Man before the movies came out so fingers crossed that DC gets it's house in order, finds some decent writers and directors who like Patty Jenkins can knock it out of the park with Wonder Woman.

Michael B Jordan now being touted. Black Superman? Fuck yeah :).

WB/DC just need to decide where they want to take their DCEU.

You're sort of half-right there. Bale was in The Dark Knight Rises -- but Snyder's version of Batman in BvS was definitely based on The Dark Knight Returns, i.e. the 1986 Frank Miller graphic-novel miniseries.

That's probably a misunderstanding. https://www.cbr.com/michael-b-jordan-superman-rumor-analysis/

Ooops.. well, there's been so many Dark Knights, who can keep track of all of them? :D

I'm shocked that an asshole actor shits on the only people who would be willing to see his shit movie, just shocked. Maybe the guy from Signs and...basically nothing besides Signs that isn't artsy shit shouldn't take on a comic book based movie. I knew he was one of these kinds of assholes, and his movie is going to be such fucking shit. How can DC find a more pretentious prick to play Joker? I thought that Jared Leto was the most pretentious asshole actor in modern history, but at this point Phoenix might actually beat him as the worst Joker. that's impressive because Jared Leto, in my opinion, played the worst version of an established comic book character in any superhero production ever made. Well, I guess Phoenix will be swinging for the fences with his shitty portrayal (yes, this is a Signs joke).

As for Cavill going, good riddance. He was ok in Justice League, but hopefully him leaving means the next Superman won't be born from Snyder's shitty Ayn Rand influenced mind mixed with David Goyer's incompetence.

A+ would read again.

So, looks like Cavill and Affleck out is as official as it gets. Sad. I wanted to see where those two could take the DCU.

Cavil being out is fake news apparently. His manager has confirmed the news isn’t true.

Still on the front page of IMDB.

That's because the studio has shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.

And then after that Warner Bros. released the following statement which, rather pointedly, is not a denial.
"While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged."

And then Cavill himself released this on his Instagram with the caption "Today was exciting. #Superman".

Probably just a negotiating tactic. I doubt he’s gone. Who would want to give up playing Superman. Before doing the definitive Superman movie. He’s only done the origin story so far

He's done. Too much smoke, probably means wildfire. Michael b. Jordan is Superman confirmed by Henry Cavill.

He's already done three movies, and he's got new regular, potentially long term job starting soon, so I can see wanting to move on.
