The Down Under Lounge

I think the damage to the Liberals is irreparable, now. If the Coalition goes to the election with Dutton as PM, and they lose, I doubt very much that Labor wouldn't immediately refer Dutton to the High Court, under Section 44. It could bring about a by-election, and the seat is not very safe.

Malcolm seems to think it's plain sailing.

When 40% of your party doesn't want you? Yeah, I'll ride that flying pig.

Yeah Ikr...

Howcome when a reporter asks a question rather then give a direct answer all politicians rather then answer the question go off on an unrelated tangent and waffle on with party slogans?

No we can't.

Yes you can.

Turnbull is free to have the lower house dissolved at any point he wishes it's just the senate that's the sticking point.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-22/the-when-and-how-of-calling-the-next-federal-election/10153686

Since the 70s it's become the norm for both houses to go to the polls at the same time but that is not a constitutional requirement. The 1972 election that saw Gough Whitlam become P.M was the last time that the Senate and the HoR went separately.

It’s on like Donkey Kong, as the kids say.

Cormann, Cash and Fifield (they sound like a group of lawyers) have indicated they’ve pulled support for Turnbull.

three nasty pieces of work that would be no great loss if they were tossed from the parliament.

Also proves this line from Yes Minister

"first it's necessary to get behind some-one in order to stab them in the back"

At midday the Government pulled the plug on the House, voting to go into recess 70-68. No Question Time for Labor to pile on the Libs.

Yes you can.

Yes I know you can.

I was trying and somewhat failing to be sarcastic my bad.

Last night watching Morrison on TV was hilarious his mugging it up for the camera "I'm behind Malcolm" yeah sure you are behind him, but with a sharp knife.

Turnbull will only call a party room meeting of he gets a petition that has 43 names on it. Given the actual leadership vote is secret, there's speculation many MPs don't want to be outed in such a manner, and are holding off. Turnbull is also waiting on legal advice re: Dutton vs Section 44. MPs may not want to align with a leader under a validity cloud.

This will be messy.

Popcorn, anyone?

The sooner Canberra is nuked from orbit, the better. What a shambles. The mere thought of having an Islamophobic, xenophobic, racist bigot as PM should terrify anyone, even a politician.

Meanwhile Labor are such utter fucking hypocrites - chortling away and hurling abuse when they themselves were doing the exact same sort of shit a few years ago. Surely we as a country can do better than this collective of self-centred, self-indulgent arseholes who, whatever party they belong to, are infinitely more interested in "power" than they are about the people who put them in their perk-laden jobs.

+10,000 x agree

I wonder how long till we get an early election as this seems a likely outcome of this mess.

Abbott: "Loyalty has to be earned."

Bishop: "I will be running for the leadership."

Craig Laundy: "we wouldn't be in this position if Labor hadn't had the Rudd/Gillard issue."
