Yes, wrong. As in, I'm not watching the show I'm just buying the party line that CBS is pushing like some sort of drug addict. As in, every time it comes up, there is the same Prime debate. There's some great stuff in it. Maybe it's because TOS is from so long ago, but even the bad stuff entertains me in a way the bad stuff in the subsequent shows does not.

I don't see what's wrong with 'The Omega Glory'
The TNG era events still happened, but the Holoprogram wasn't 100% accurate to what happened in the ENT era.

As discosceptic as I am, I’m slowly figuring out that the whole of Star Trek both is and isn’t prime (except that whole Kelvin mess).
TOS is prime. TOS-R changed some of the details - that is also prime. BoBW is prime - then Emissary changed some details - they were still prime. Even when i go back and watch BoBW again - both accounts are prime even though they’re contradictory.
DSC is also prime. Even though it’s changed way more than any previous retcon it’s still as prime as TOS is - unless they specifically address the changes (a la “trials” and “affliction/divergence”), which I think they should.
But, in muh brain, the only way I can reconcile the changes in DSC is to look at earlier Trek and think “ok those previous changes happened and it was still prime”. These changes are bigger - and for that reason I think they deserve an explanation - but otherwise DSC is the same as changing the Melbourne or the changes introduced into TOS-R. It is, yet isn’t, prime due to the contradictory nature of two sets of concurrent, yet distinct facts.

Well no matter what it is, it seems like with each iteration of Trek it just gets more and more disjointed, out of whack with what came before. I think it's at a point now that there's just no way of explaining it away. At least with sequels it was easy enough. But prequels any explanation just seems to contrived. Oh well. At least Lost In Space got it right. Do a complete reboot. Honor the original in small ways but be it's it' thing. Never have to worry about any continuity issues with that show.

It would be easier to just accept that it's a long running show that TRIES to maintain some continuiity but that maintaining it that continuity in a watchable form that will somehow attract audiences old and new is a Sisyphean effort, both pointless, neverending, and a waste of talent.
Window-counting shows a certain fundamentalist slaving for something that was meant to be entertainment. It's almost masochistic, expecting, needing, craving these continents of continuity free of fault lines. It's not going to happen and yet people want it. A reboot will probably happen. At some point. But it doesn't have to. We could just lighten up. That's all it takes.
Lost in Space is a really good example, since LIS and TOS were both the love children of Forbidden Planet. I watched Lost In Space reruns on WTBS as a kid. I wont say it sucked, but it wasn't as good as Trek and it never had the same kind of fanbase.
Maybe it was the monster-of-the-week thing from sharing sets and props with Voyage.. Maybe the B&W season made it less palatable, I've heard that arguement, but I don't think the latter is true. People were still watching Leave it to Beaver into the 80's and it got a new series (which was not a reboot, btw) in that decade. Hollywood has been mining 60's escapist television for decades. We'll have another Beverly Hillbillies movie again, we'll have more Bradys, we'll Dream of Genie and another poor astronaut will be Bewitched. I don't think anyone will remake Petticoat Junction. Bathing in the town's water supply is unhygienic and uncomfortably fetishistic. I digress again. Lost in Space mostly sucked. Had great opening music, though, especially season 2 on.
Lost in Space, got rebooted cause very few people gave a damn. It had already been rebooted once before. There wasn't some trail of episodes and movies from the 60's to the current decade. Personally I find the new show well done, but hasn't grabbed me enough to watch past episode 4. If I had been an adult that probably would have been my feelings about it in the 60s. I'm still perplexed that anyone even bought the property and MADE a new show. They could have called it anything, named the new characters anything. There wasn't some great unspoken clamor to bring back Lost in Space, a not entirely beloved series, in a manner and format unrecognizable to the original. But if they had named it something else, it would have had to stand on its own as an original series and that terrifies studios, now.
I've begun to think of Star Trek as my own personal "Favorite Chinese Take-out Order".

I have mentioned it in other threads...I don't think anyone was expecting it to adhere 100% to visual and written continuity. But Discovery producers didn't even try to give the show basic style ques beyond a space ship with a bridge and nacelles. The one thing they got right were the Hand Phasers and Communicators. Slight updates from TOS.
As for Lost in Space. It does get better and for a sophomore season it's pretty good. It was basically ten episodes showing how they get Lost In Space. I'm looking forward to Season 2.
In 50 years will anyone remember the Crossfield class compared to the Constitution class??
No way to know. I doubt anyone 50 years ago thought we would still be talking about the Starship/Constitution class.
Well, no, but maybe they'll remember the Corssfield class more than the Intrepid class or the NX class.
Everything in the movies and TV shows is canon. All of it, every version.
