Too bad Red Excelsior was blown to bits along with the rest of the fleet at Vulcan. You're probably thinking of a Newton docked in STiD. I also agree a John Cho or Quinto captaincy could be interesting for the course of the film.Personally, if push-came-to-shove, I’d go with retaining Pine and ditching Hemsworth.
But then again, a John Cho as Sulu, captaining a red-hulled, three-nacelled, Kelvinverse USS Excelsior (as seen in space dock in STiD) outing would be also fantastic!

The success of Wonder Woman probably has something to do with it as well (vaguely remember something about PStewart negotiations being a problem for Nemesis and something about XMen being a hit since Insurrection playing a big part in that)I still wonder about the rest of the cast. I remember that both Pine and Quinto signed for a fourth movie, before they made beyond, as a condition so that they could get a raise for Beyond and a fourth movie. But it seems Quinto doesn't have issues..did he accept a pay-cut? Or maybe the original deals for him and the others were respected and it's only Pine the issue because his paycheck is, now, too much?

Yes can totally envision a soft 40m opening then barely makes it to a 120m domestic/280m worldwide total gross for Trek ThorObviously as a Trek fan, I'd watch the hell out of this. Unfortunately, Trek for the masses is Kirk and Spock and gang - at best. Even a TNG reboot I don't think would make bank.
My gut feeling is that Paramount have blown it as far as the Kelvin timeline goes now, and I suspect that even if ST4 gets made, 500million dollars is now firmly off the table. It would have to be something spectacular to bring the audiences back I think, and as the whole thing already reeks of penny pinching, I just can't see that.
would dig a 'Where No One Has Gone Before' meets Interstellar type adventure, but theres a better way for boosting the box office... TarantinoMaybe a change of tack to something a bit more Interstellar-like rather than big expensive action set pieces. Give us an innovative, thought provoking sci-fi flick. It can still have some action and humour. I fear spunking another 150million plus on explosions will get the franchise nowhere at this point.
