News Season One hitting DVD/Blu-Ray in November

There are shows with similar extras that cost less.

 

No way, I never buy physical disks for the extras. Many of those end up on YouTube for free eventually anyway. For me anything and everything I need is online. Anything physical is a gimmick, something to talk about with guests, something to put on a shelf as a trophy.
If I were to get STD season 1 blu rays (which it looks like I won’t), I wouldn’t even remove shrink wrap from the set.

 

For me it's more of a completest thing. I already have everything else on DVD and/or Blu-Ray, and since I liked 60-70% of Disco, I just as well get it. And I have them displayed in chronological order in which they're set, so that's why I'll put them between ENT and TOS... not that I don't appreciate the Beatles/Beatles cover band analogy written above.

 

I find streaming video to be iffy in quality, in comparison to physical media.
So if I like a show a lot, then I want it on blu-ray.

Say what you want about STD Season 1, but this is good news for CBS and Star Trek in general:

YES! Another believer! I've said it before and it deserves repeating .. The quality of Audio and Video from Blu-rays is far superior to that of streaming from an on-line source.
In addition, you have something to watch when the inevitable thunderstorm or other inclement weather knocks out your high-speed internet connection for the entire evening (Charter Spectrum sucks)*. Happened to me last night. Dusted off my Blu-ray copy of The Martian and I was a happy camper for the entire evening.

Mate, it's 100% fact that Blu-ray is better quality than streaming. There's nothing to believe, it's the truth.

Where it gets iffy is when you compare 4K HDR with 7.2 surround streaming to 1080p with 5.1 surround Blu-ray, which is the case with Star Trek Discovery for some of us.

 

Seems pretty reasonable price to me. I remember paying $120 per season for Trek on DVD.

Just no. I still play discs, Blu-ray is better quality than most everything streaming.

I'll be getting it for sure. Great to have the extra features and get some insights into all the ups and downs! Plus, as others have pointed out, no doubt the consistent quality of the image and sound will be great on BR.

 

Yeah, VOYAGER was $120 when it first came out on Dvd, but you had more episodes. DSC is basically half a regular season. I still won't pay since I already paid to stream it and will likely re-subscribe to see season 2, during w/c time I can re-watch S1. I don't care about owning it, or the extras w/c will likely end up on YouTube as someone else mentioned.

 

4K yes, for rest let's agree to disagree. It happens so rarely, it's actually refreshing

 

Those shows probably don't have "Star Trek" in their titles.

Yeah, while the extras would be nice to see, I'll wait for the bargain bin. I still have the season on PVR anyway, so that'll do for me till then.

 

Unless you have superfast internet no show streamed will be as good in picture or sound as physical media.

Also, if the extras end up on YouTube I bet they'll be pulled fast by CBS for infringement as one can not just upload to YouTube because they OWN a copy of it.

 

Well it is but this is Star Trek and trek fans buy the high quality but not in volume.

Some shows only get a DVD-only release if they wont get a good R.O.I. business-wise.
4k UHD is not on their radar for TV series. CBS just is not HBO with Westworld and Game of Thrones getting 4k UHD releases for entire seasons. GoT is $15 million an episode to produce. HBO are going to sell it anyone they can on Home Video and digital download to make more $.
Trek WILL eventually do that with STD based on history of say TNG
VHS, DVD, Blu-ray. Multiple releases of the same product.
CBS Home video is saving that for maybe once they have 3 seasons in the can and about to start season 4. This way they could sell season 1 complete season in 4k UHD as well as have a separate SKU for a pack of seasons 1-3.

 

It’s great for making ENT look more like the rest of the eras Trek.

 

Thank God the price for the Blu-Ray set isn't obscene.

The prices are why I only bought TOS on DVD in the '00s and stopped there. I lucked out that my favorite Trek series was three seasons... and that streaming was in the near-future.

 

The problem with streaming is that you stop to pay, you stop to own a show.
And there is no good internet conections everywhere.

I like to buy BRs to my loved shows, and go far away and enjoy them without the necesity of being connected ....
Also, I refuse to pay for something that never will be mine.

 

Streaming is renting. I buy physical copies of the stuff I like because I want them to stay in my collection, not potentially disappear some day.
