News Season One hitting DVD/Blu-Ray in November

UK fans, we will probably have to wait a bit longer. Netflix doesn't allow its Original Series to go on Blu-ray until up to 18 months after the last episode is released online. They probably also mandate the US Blu-ray is region coded.

That said, Riverdale Season 2 has managed to get a UK DVD release cleared this month, so it might be allowed. Black Lightning however didn't, and that's from the same studio.
Aw, shucks that’ll be a shame, I’ll have to take it off my ‘want for Christmas list’ if that’s the case

Thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting for this as it will be my first chance to see and evaluate the series for myself, and then I'll be able to participate in in this forum with some informed comments and opinions.

I watched season 1 this past weekend on an LG android from Walmart that originally cost about 60 bucks. CBS All Access via Spectrum wifi. The resolution / clarity was pretty darn good. The very first scenes, out in the desert, looked amazingly good, for example. My only issue was the shitty wifi from Spectrum, which caused occasional buffering and connectivity problems. But, across 15 episodes, it was not too intrusive. All in all a very satisfying experience. It was part of the one-week trial period for the CBS All Access, so it was free. My wife and I are watching that and Strange Angel during the free period and that's that. Not motivated to pay for it.

We will most likely wait for discounted discs on ebay, possibly even second-hand. Just don't feel like shelling out more $$$ than necessary. Neither one of us has purchased a new hardcover or even paperback book in almost 18 years....a generation. When last year's new books can be had this year, second-hand, for a couple of dollars each, we are definitely not in a big rush. :techman:

8K is around the corner HD is hopelessly outdated by now for any brand new 2018 show

Okay, is 8K really a thing? I will readily admit my ignorance in the whatever we call "HD, 4K, 8K" discussions, but the human eye, like the human ear, can only discern so much. At a certain point, there's no more detail to be seen and no better sound quality to be heard due to the organic limitations of those organs. I'm starting to feel like we're reaching an "Emperor's New Clothes" thing where we're told "But see...this is in 24K...can't you tell how much better it looks?"

Then people squint really hard and go "Oh...uh...sure, it looks much better than plain 'old 4K!" But it's just 4K. :D

Is there anything in this show that would really benefit visually from viewing in 4K? Perhaps being able to see everybody's pores and nose hairs in a bridge shot?

I think there is more to be gained from sound than sight.

I am finding that I prefer to use a pair of good quality headphones rather than speakers. There is an extra level of detail the headphones provide that can be easily missed without them.

Visual resolution....by comparison with sound, the differences are much more negligible.

For now 8k will start for TVs north of 60" and will cost and arm and a leg.... just like 4k TVs were 2-3 years ago. In two years (not this Christmas), maybe next Christmas you'll be able to get an 55" inch 8k TV for around $1500-$2000 or so. Year after that, under $1k. 4K TVs can already be found at bargain based prices (during amazon prime day one 55" 4k tv was being sold for $290). Soon 1080p TVs won't even be sold anymore, with 4k being base model, 8k being premium. Just like TVs, content needs to catch up.

Tell that to the folks in Discovery size thread. They are measuring every blurry pixel they can get their hands on. 4x number of pixels will make a HUGE difference in any VFX shot, but only if it's shot in native 4k and not upscaled from HD to 4k

Guardians of Galaxy Vol 2 was shot with 8k. Is it too much to expect my Trek to be shot in 8k as well?

I'm big into next level tech, and I honestly don't see 4K as that big of an improvement over 1080p. The numbers are nice, but it doesn't change that there is only so much the human eye can detect.

4K just isn't the jump that Full HD was over SD.

Yeah, 4K is 4x more pixels than HD. HD was 5x more pixels than SD
It's still a pretty big jump :)

But it isn't a jump that is as easily discernible by the human eye. And that's a problem when a huge portion of people aren't that into the absolute best PQ possible.
