My money is still on the L’Rell / Voq / Ash plotline somehow creating a new version of what becomes a Klingon.
That or selective breeding in an attempt to create "pure" Klingons, resulting in a lot of recessive traits and such.
I'll probably end up in a minority....of one. But, what I would have found very interesting from day one in Star Trek is if the Klingons had looked virtually identical to humans. With the Klingon culture and attitudes....what a fascinating dynamic that would have presented. Imagine how pissed off they would have been to discover beings who looked just like themselves, but who they deemed to be vastly weaker. What a cosmic insult. What a potential threat to their religious beliefs. What opportunities for both sides to more easily infiltrate. What pitfalls from mistaken identity. Etc. TOS had the parallel Earth thing going, with episodes like 'Miri'. So....why not?
Honestly, I could have dealt with their changed appearance. But when they talked I had to mute the TV, it was just awful. Horrible. Sometimes I'd leave the sound on just to remind myself how horrible it was and just laugh at them doing something stupid like that. I've heard dogs sound more human than them stupid ass Klingons!
Can you imagine these Klingons quoting Shakespeare like Chang in The Undiscovered Country? I think they inadvertently brought Nick Meyer's racist take to the fore, "only top of the line models can even talk".
I wouldn't mind some tacit understanding of Fuller's Fuckup and a fix to Klingon look. I dont care of they come up with an in world excuse. It's not a huge revert to go with the Into Darkness Klingon look that can have or not have hair.. they looked awesome and fit in very well.
Do Asians, whites, blacks and so on look the same? No! So why should Klingons? There’s diversity among the earth-bound “races,” so why wouldn’t there be diversity among the Klingons? Get over it, folks!
If we go into season 2 with the Klingons looking how they've looked in TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT I'll be grateful and thank them for acknowledging this was a problem.
It would still be waay off the mark since most Trek fans know the Klingons didn't look anything like the "Wolf man" in outer space from TMP mold. They should appear like they did in TOS. Those Klingons had more bite and were ruthless, the Worf spawned Klingons (TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT) are very stupid and has dried up any sort of interest. That make-up design is 40 years old and played out. A compromise would be use the JJ Abrams molds, at least that make-up design appeared modern and it would branch the series better with the JJverse than the real Star Trek universe.
Trekmovie.com just posted an informative article about the stuff revealed in Hetrick's STLV panel. I'm not sure what the rules are about posting excerpts from articles on other websites, but to paraphrase what Hetrick said is that all the Klingon Houses have different variations from one another, and in some cases minor genetic differences. We saw that to a certain degree in season one, but we've only seen a handful Houses so far. He also said that not all that not all the Houses originate from Qo'noS and are actually on other planets throughout the Empire. You take that idea and the idea of some minor genetic differences between the Houses, and you marry it with the concept of interbreeding with some non-Klingon races, and of course the Augment stuff, you have plenty of room for some more-familiar looking Klingons. Fair enough, but I was kind of just being facetious with my "do they really have to" comment.
