Disney fires James Gunn from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"

There won't be a boycott but sooner or later Marvel is going to have it's "Solo" and this might end up being it. Soon as people have someone to garner their anger around. The Marvel version of Katleen Kennedy. I feel bad for the person who will replace him. They will be taking some unfair criticism and also dealing with the fact the movie most likely won't be as good. These movies were very unique from the other Marvel movies and I don't think you can replicate the same feel with a new creator behind it.

Kennedy has nothing to do with solo underperforming. Most people don't know who she is.

Yeah, there was just a quirkiness to the first two that very much came from James Gunn, and I just can't see anyone doing it quite the same way he did. While it could still be good or even great, there almost no way it will be the same as the first two.

That' proably true but we know the cliche that she is responsible so she works well for the metaphor, especially since Rick Berman is old news.

It seems to me that all the recent firings and resignations are not necessarily a bad thing, but it may be happening for the wrong reasons. Few of the "guilty" parties would be jobless without the current outrage over behavior that was once borderline, if not accepted.

I cannot recall a time when pedophilia and rape "jokes" were anything other than offensive and inspiring rage.

Some have been fired or forced out over unproven allegations, if for no reason other than to save face for the employer.

Then the employer is in good company--meaning not caring to understand the problem--with those who seem to be more interested in the MCU junk not being interrupted than Gunn's nauseating interest / "humor", which says so much about the ever-decaying state of the culture.

The "slippery slope" warning is tossed around willy-nilly, but it's important to remember that the longer this goes on and the larger the outrage class gets, the more it becomes possible that the next target could be sitting in your seat. Right or wrong, just be careful what you say or do. Nothing goes away, and eyes and ears are everywhere.

Just sayin'.

The takeaway is that individuals should try to not be a festering shell of anti-social beliefs/behavior--yes, that's always been too much to ask in this society. Gunn was insulated in his community for far too long (again, it says much that pedophile / rape "humor" was just danced around without the tears and squeals usually reserved for the constructed political boogeyman of the week). Being held not to a "higher" standard, but a standard of normalcy should not be some unreasonable demand...but again, I'm not really surprised at the defense of Gunn expressed in the past few days (not meaning you, urbandefault),over the decades, I witnessed others jumping to the defense of Marge Schott, Al Campanis, Harry Reid, Trump, Charlie Sheen and others of the bottom-scraping set.

Bobcat Goldthwait:
I love James Gunn. He’s a loyal friend, super talented, passionate and kind. I wanted to say something, here it is: Dear Disney, I would hate for you to come off as hypocritical, so I’m suggesting that you remove my voice from an attraction that’s coming to your park. It’s called WORLD OF COLOR – VILLAINOUS, and I reprise the tole of Pain, a role I played in Hercules.

You see here’s the deal. Years ago I made a lot of sarcastically shocking and offensive jokes. Many that I’m embarrassed about now, and I’d hate to make you guys look bad seeing that I’m openly critical of the president and his administration, and you seem to be taking your lead from some of his radical fringe supporters.

They should've already fired him, because he's Bobcat Goldthwait.

Marvel has already had a couple of 'Solo' films (in terms of Box Office:
The Incredible Hulk

and the first 'Thor' film:

But unlike Warner Bros. and their DCEU; Marvel Studios didn't suddenly panic and say - "OMG! We have to rethink EVERYTHING!" - they took it in stride, made a couple adjustments and went on to have overall good success.

Neither of those movies were flops based on expectations. They both made about as much as Marvel expected them to, and any losses they may had incurred were swallowed in order to set up the Avengers. Meanwhile Solo made half of that which was expected.

What were those expecations for the first wave of Marvel movies? I guess things changed after the first "Avengers" movie or was the bar raised even after that? Did "Iron Man 2 and 3" go beyond what people expected? I assuming they were expected big bucks after how popular the first "Iron Man" movie was and "Iron Man 3" was the first movie after the first "Avengers" movie.

Disney has found a replacement director for GoTG 3:

That photo makes it look like he is looking at the fans! I can see fans showing up to the theater only find out the movie isn't screening. Hanson is waiting for them. Asks them why they came to see this movie. Did you know about the previous director? Would you mind going outside now where the cops are waiting.

Stuff like this is why I like to stay ignorant about actors/directors/writers personal lives. Less chance of disappointment.

But the internet, social media and modern media makes that very hard these days.

Everyone thinks they have a public life, a "persona" and a "brand" now. Thanks, Internet!

I vote for Taika Waititi to take over GotG 3, if I would get to vote.

I actually think their won't be a GotG 3. I think many of the actors will walk away from it. They seem to support Gunn and I'm guessing they are pissed right now and frankly they don't need to do it. They are rich and have very active careers.
