Good example but there, the characters were likeable as well, so it worked.FTFY

I don't need to. No one has refuted them in any meaningful way. TMP is as jarring as Discovery, in fact more so since it is only a 3 year gap.Okay enough with this TMP nonsense from you, you're going in circles. And I've refuted those tired points before.

Prequels have been done by Star Trek multiple times with mixed results. I am not convinced that continuing on with a prequel series would be well received or wise in terms of production. Would I love to see an April or Pike series? Absolutely, but I would also love to see the Franz Josephs' designs come to life in a series too. I don't always get what I want and I don't see a prequel being a good choice.Sadly, after STD, the prequel concept has been done and done to death. Any chance of an April or Pike Enterprise series died with STD.
Whatever show comes next for Star Trek needs to move away from the TOS era.
I thought the scene humanized them all, especially Michael, very well. I love Michael and want even more after this trailer.Good example but there, the characters were likeable as well, so it worked.
Anson looks great for his age, but he definitely wouldn't be right for a Pike 10 years ago.

Notice the red of the DIscovery nacelles? Looks like they're trying to make it look like a Fed ship better.
Linus needs to be shown carrying a blanket just once during the second season. It was fantastic. Anti fanwank dudes may want to avoid this for the sake of their health but I loved it. The scene with Tig Notaro was funny, hopefully this means more humor. And I hope Linus is a semi-regular and not just in one elevator scene.
A Pike series would have been the same.
Yeah. I hope they keep her around. I literally laughed out loud at that. But then I laugh at pretty much anything she does.It was fantastic. He's 45. How old is Pike supposed to be in the year STD season 2 takes place? It looks like they artificially aged him for Season 2. I don't think it would be a problem for him to pull off 35 if they wanted to.
I'm talking about an April series. I never wanted a Pike series, too close to the TOS era for comfort.
Exactly so.I thought the scene humanized them all, especially Michael, very well. I love Michael and want even more after this trailer.
And "Murphy Brown" was doing Elevator Scenes/Jokes on a regular basis long before any other show.
I'm not looking for a Pike show, but generally speaking, I'd rather watch a well-formed crew act like professionals than a new crew trying to grow into proficient heroes. The story of their growth is the unnecessary Origin Story of their more interesting later stories. There's a reason Origin Stories are nearly universally hated: there's a reason it was Backstory.Yep, but the vast majority of their mission has already happened. The characters and crew have already grown into proficient heroes by 2258/9. That doesn't leave much room for development, starting a series towards the midpoint to tail-end of the mission.
Yep, the further you go from established PrimeTimelineEras, the less it matters that it doesn't link up perfectly. An April series would have been far more preferable.... since it's 20 years before Kirk and gives a lot of breath and time for things to look and seem tonally different.

The whole trailer does look very, very Kelvinish in contrast to the first season.so. kelvin timeline confirmed, huh?

Yes, according to me. How dare I expect consistency in criticism levied against Star Trek?LOL. According to you.

Just watched the trailer. Looks like they're trying to add "Orville" like humor to the series. Problem is that works in the Orville because the characters are likeable. Just comes off as weird in this.
All it would take is one throw-away line from any character, saying that event's from Archer's Era (ENTERPRISE) may have somehow altered the "Prime Universe" as we knew it and all will be well again.
