Season 2 Teaser

Never would have imagined myself preferring Kurtzman's vision to Fuller's. That is if he does have a large part in the direction of this season.
Kurtzman is the new showrunner, so he is in charge of pretty much the whole thing this season.

linus is the best!
I didn't notice watching the trailer that the woman with Pike is wearing a red shirt and separate black skirt instead of the one piece miniskirts we got in TOS and the Kelvinverse movies.

Is the red cloud stuff a message from the future or something?
Perhaps...
(and I'm really reaching out to the very tip of this limb)
What we are seeing is Red Matter in its natural state.
Then the Spock we end up seeing is the one from the Kelvin Universe?
Crossing over to warn about what that stuff can do.
They could then justify having Quinto appear in the show.

yeah... it's a stupid idea...
:vulcan:

Yep, but the vast majority of their mission has already happened. The characters and crew have already grown into proficient heroes by 2258/9. That doesn't leave much room for development, starting a series towards the midpoint to tail-end of the mission.

The ideal way to handle a Pike series would have been to start it from the day he takes command, though... an April series would have been far more preferable.... since it's 20 years before Kirk and gives a lot of breath and time for things to look and seem tonally different.

If they really want to, they can spin-off Pike/Enterprise show to be a prequel to STD (prequel of a prequel ). Set it 10 years back or so, when Pike first got command of Enterprise.

Just watched the trailer. Looks like they're trying to add "Orville" like humor to the series. Problem is that works in the Orville because the characters are likeable. Just comes off as weird in this.

I didn't realize Orville invented humour.

I'd rather we get a prequel done right with a safe 20 yr gap, than STD happening just a few years before TOS (which still makes it a prequel), but being visually and tonally jarring.
A Pike series would have been the same.

Given the responses to prequels, I am not inclined to think that it can be "done right."

TMP is also visually and tonally jarring. Still waiting for the requests for it to be stricken from canon.

Orville also invented Star Trek.

They didn't but it's the most recent sci fi show with a similar premise with humor similar to what they're trying to attempt.

Anson looks great for his age, but he definitely wouldn't be right for a Pike 10 years ago.

Sadly, after STD, the prequel concept has been done and done to death. Any chance of an April or Pike Enterprise series died with STD.

Whatever show comes next for Star Trek needs to move away from the TOS era.

Okay enough with this TMP nonsense from you, you're going in circles. And I've refuted those tired points before.

If you want to respond to my posts and start a discussion, bring something new to the table.

How does that work? There's always room for development. Especially with characters we're just getting to know. Their lives before we "meet" them doen't actually count as development. What is revealed going forward is development.

This might be the best Star Trek trailer ever.

And the Kelvin films had a few of their own.

And so did the Ninja Turtles. And a few Marvel films. And Buffy/Firefly. And so on.

"Elevator scenes" have persisted in pop culture for decades. You're seriously reaching here.

And "Murphy Brown" was doing Elevator Scenes/Jokes on a regular basis long before any other show.

Notice the red of the DIscovery nacelles? Looks like they're trying to make it look like a Fed ship better.

It all depends on context. This works as an isolated trailer moment specifically BECAUSE DSC is so dang serious about itself. But it may or may not work next to a "we've got to save the ship urgently" scene or an "everyone is dead" scene or a "I have a problem coping with my childhood" scene.
I quite like the Orville, but I wouldn't say it has likeable characters. In fact, I'd say that's the main problem with the show (besides the fact that MacFarlane should have cast himself as a supporting character instead of the lead).
