Season 2 Teaser

I'm not sure what you're pardoning about ... I'm assuming you're asking me to rephrase. I'm wondering why Discovery doesn't just come up with its own stories, without having to continue to use TOS like the back of a chair to lean on. That the series takes a page out of TNG's book, in that TNG did reference TOS, on occasion, but it usually tried to make up its own aliens, it's own situations, it's own "universe," if you will. I hope this answers your query ...

I just meant I wanted you to explain what you meant, which you did.

They need a mix. The Cardassian and Borg stuff was great but many decent TNG stories involved Klingons and Romulans. I was far more engaged in Enterprise stories featuring Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites, and Orions than I was with the Xindi.

Many stories with one shot head bump of the week could have been done by expanding existing species to give them more than a one episode monoculture .

so. kelvin timeline confirmed, huh?

Honestly, that was as close to a mea culpa as I could have asked for. It gives me renewed hope and optimism for the second season. I will try to go into it with an open mind.

One nit: I don’t get why command gold is so bright yellow. That’s not the color I associate with TOS, much less Cage-era TOS.

Yeah because a different timeline would affect how warp physics work.

Really liked Mount as Pike. I’d watch that spinoff.

In a different universe where doing stuff like that is cheap and fun, I'd like to see them re-do The Cage with him and the new designs and props. Just for kicks.

Wow ... yeah, the Xindi. I liked the Reptilians, but the mammals had to go, and the CGI used for the insects and the Aquatics was pretty bad. And not just the way it looked, which might've been forgiveable, but there wasn't enough in the budget to have them actually do much. They were little more than props, really. But I was and still am quite infatuated with the story idea of a planet that might've evolved multiple sentient creatures. Makes me wonder what Earth's politics would be like today if Neanderthals were still around, and whatever else. Maybe another offshoot of Human. There was a lot to mine there, but of course, the show wasn't interested in that. Just kind of get the ENT crew in trouble and piss of Humanity a bit was their only cause. In any event, I understand what you're saying about the variety of TOS in the mix, It's not unforgivable, it's just nice to have a series that's eager to add to the pot.

No big similarity, at least not as seen through a bridge window ...

(It was a recurring gag, for pete’s sake.)
