USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I could say the same thing about TMP.
You can, but the actual story line of The Motion Picture explains everything but the Klingon changes.
And those changes were generally accepted after the movie came out, as being a different off-shoot of Klingon society.
(at least till "ENTERPRISE" and its "Augment" theory)

Not to my satisfaction. I'm picky sometimes ;)

Also, Kirk's behavior, Spock's behavior as well as some of the tech seems inconsistent with TOS. It doesn't fit seamlessly.

... a lot can happen in almost two years to change a persons outlook on life.
Hell, sometimes it only takes a moment.

Kirk and Crew came back to a Hero's Welcome they probably didn't really want and then most of them ended up in positions that clearly weren't what they expected.
Spock, McCoy & Scotty were probably the only ones that were actually doing what they truly wanted to do.
Sulu, Uhura & Chekov probably went on hiatus till they were needed for the actual interior refit of the Enterprise.
That's a pretty through explanation for me.

I agree, a lot can happen. Just like a lot can happen in 10 years before TOS. That's the point. If TMP is acceptable changes after two years then DSC is acceptable for ten.

Well, Spock did go through Kolinahr. What is it about Kirk that's inconsistent?

They don’t need to explain them

Just like they didn’t need to explain the Klingon changes.
Yep. Nonsensically radical changes need no explanation. Especially the extraordinarily nonsensically radical ones. They're the best. At that point, the viewer should be providing the explanations. Star Trek meets Twin Peaks. Laura Palmer is part of the mycelial network.

No, they actually don't. Retroactive changes mean exactly that: they are changed retroactively, so according to the continuity from now on, they were always this way. Ergo, no change, no explanation needed.

Just to Decker, and just because he's dating his girl.

Plus, being an Admiral really sucks. Look at how many of them became evil over the years.

Admiral Kirk never shot a bowl of cookies, at least.
He did forget to check on a certain exiled and extremely dangerous colony of augments and a former crewmember, where a planet exploded for no given reason. Come to think of it.. shouldn't Starfleet have had information on that, too? Does ANYONE read this guy's logs? "Captain's Log Stardate yadda yadda.. discovered a greek god .. green space hand.. it's in your butt. No one reads this stuff. Kirk out"
