What kind of Trek cartoon do you want?

I think it would be cool if they made a 24th century animated series that allowed characters from the three series set in that era to interact with each other.
Good idea! It would be cute, seeing Janeway and her adventures with Picard and Sisko. Let's hope that if a cartoon does emerge, that this is the way they go with it ...

Search Star Trek: Judgement Rites and 25th Annviersary on YouTube. They were videogames from the 90s but narrative stories set during the 5YM - if they could get that dialogue they could make new animated episodes with the complete original cast, including Koenig animated at last and Majel Barrett as the Computer voice! Plus of course the late great Nimoy, Kelley and Doohan

(I won't mention Vulcan Fury- oh whoops I just did!)

I don't see the point in continuing the same argument in two threads, so I've merged the new one into the existing one.

I would prefer a whole new crew, but with an existing class ship (prefereably a Sovereign, Constitution, Akira, NX refit or Excelsior).

As for setting, my preference is for TOS-movie era or just after (that gap between the movies and TNG). It's an era that doesn't get fleshed out much, but has a lot of potential. Klingons getting access to Romulan cloaks, the Romulan Empire going quiet, peace with the Klingons, Federation starship technology undergoing a renaissance (both in the case of the refit Enterprise and the Excelsior).

However I'm up for a 24th century series (just not post Voyager) and a Rise of the Federation like series.

I think a TNG lost adventures would be great. Set during the run of TNG (or at least before Generations). Though, to be fair, this is mostly due to nostalgia about having TNG. The only problem for me would be, how long could they let it run on, without it seeming like the E-D was in service for too long.

My two choices would be Lost Era (between the TOS movies and TNG) or post-Nemesis. I like the idea of using an underused but well-established ship class like Akira, Prometheus, Nova etc...

You know the mention of Q made me think. What about a Trek show about Q?

I think this is a GREAT idea. Jonathan de Lancie is already a big voiceactor these days thanks to MLP. It would be a great way to bring him back into the fold.

Also, most Q episodes in some shape or form were morality plays which I think would benefit a kid-friendly show (not that I think it should talk down to the audience...TAS was once thought of as the most cerebral saturday morning Trek show that could pass for adult).

I know I'm kind of in the minority here, but I'd love a TOS-y show (set in the 2260's), done in the style of Star Wars: The Clone Wars/Rebels, but with new characters and a new ship. I always thought it would be fun to explore that time period through the eyes of a different crew. Animation kind of gives you the freedom to marry together the 60's aesthetics with modern aesthetics. The ship and the uniforms could look TOS-y, but at the same time you could have Disco-y Klingons. But again, I know I'm in the minority.

Seriously, reboot kiddie cartoon adventures of Kirk and Spock. Make kids swarm to the cinemas for the next movie(s).

Was Stargate Infinity as unwatchably dreadful as I remember?

I would want a post TUC cartoon where Spock is gone being an Ambassador, Scotty is missing and McCoy is retired, but Shatner, Takei, Nichols and Koenig reprise their roles with a new crew of younger characters and aliens.

I would watch a LEGO Star Trek cartoon.

I enjoyed watching the Lego Star Wars Freemaker series. Sure, it was a kiddie show. But I think adults could appreciate that kind of show. I did. It was a fun and cute show. I don't know if cute and Star Trek go together, but I think it's worth a try.

I read in a different thread about an idea another poster had about having a new Trek series based on the lives of a 24th century Federation family. That was a suggestion for a live action show. I think the idea of a show following the lives of a family would work well with a Lego Trek cartoon. There could be different story arcs involving the kids, the teens and the adult characters.

Vorta porn in their natural environment.

That's an intriguing idea. Not the porn, of course, but utilizing animation (CGI) to explore non-humanoid species like the Vorta, and their forced evolution by the Founders. Really focusing on the origin of the Dominion with the Vorta as a nexus point.

They ought not to showcase sexuality to the nth degree, but some juxtaposition of the original family- and hospitality-based Vorta of the past, with the almost asexual, xenophobic Vorta of the present/future could make for a good story, especially if there is a narrative structure centered on Vorta telling Legends of the Dominion.

Although a straightforward miniseries, depicting the Vorta as really in a downfall since running across the Founders could be better. Although I'm not sure what the message would be.

Sorry.

Typo/Brain-fart.

I meant Horta.

The joke was that they are underground, so you can't see anything.

Frick.

While I don't like Japanese cartoons as a whole, I would like it if the space scenes were of the same quality and style as Yamato 2199 (I believe it's mostly CGI with shaders). Some of those scenes are amazing, whether it's a battle, warping or just flying past a sun or "under" a planet.

As for non-space scenes, some of DC's less overly stylised animation is perfect (either that or Korra).

Young Justice was/is a good example of an animated style that would fit the Star Trek mould well.

I think that best option for animated Star Trek would be full CGI, maybe in the style of the new Thunderbirds are Go! and the earlier New Captain Scarlet, although the budget might not be there for full-length episodes as it's not the 'main' show.

The same as me , i think that best option for animated Start Trek would be full CGI.

However bad you remember it, it was worse. A prime example of how not to do an animated spin-off.

What the people clamoring for a TAS remake need to realize is that this show will not be aimed at them. If everything happens as the reports suggest we will get an animated show for children, an Academy show for teenagers, Discovery for adults, Khan and Picard miniseries for old folks.

Just because a show is animated doesn't means it's exculsively for children, anymore than say... the Harry Potter series is (it's usually shelved as 8-12 or Teen depending on the store's policies but significant portion of the audience, in fact the majority by now, are 18+, though perhaps not out of the 18-30 TV demographic which IMO is probably Star Trek's traditional 'core' audience.
