Now I'm tempted to cut off half my hairIt's probably best they didn't go with the shaved head, and settled for giving her the SJW haircut.

This thread is also causing me to reflect on how much I enjoy that Disco has running bridge characters, with maybe little glimpses of personality here and there, but they don't force it. How much better Voyager or Enterprise might have been if they realized Kim and Mayweather should never have been used beyond minimal bridge exposition!
They weren't used for anything beyond minimal bridge exposition. That's the problem, they were listed in the main credits for their shows (which should be reserved for the most important characters to the show) and had nothing to do on a typical week other than say technobabble or jargon.
I know people with that haircut and they're definitely not SJWs.First time I saw the haircut was in 2009. First time I heard the term "Social Justice Warriors", someone was already abbreviating it to "SJW" and I had to ask, "What does that stand for?" That was 2015.

As an aside, it kinda bothers me that Detmer doesn't grow out her hair to partially cover her implant. I mean, I know the showrunners did it for rule of cool, but in like 99% of cases if you ended up with a big implant on the side of your head you'd try to hide it with hair, rather than accentuate it by keeping the area shaven.
It's SJW propaganda! It's a sidecut, it's not an uncommon hairstyle.
Owosekun has a similar haircut tooIt's a sidecut, it's not an uncommon hairstyle.
Svelte Jello Wranglers? Why would they need an official haircut? But apparently only SJWs wear it.
It's actually Starfleet's Jellico Workers and it's Jellico so sure everyone needs an official haircut.Svelte Jello Wranglers? Why would they need an official haircut?
I could actually see that. Lots of disgruntled officers lined up outside the barber's cabin. It's actually Starfleet's Jellico Workers and it's Jellico so sure everyone needs an official haircut.
It's part of the official uniform. Jello wranglers are very strict about appearance.Svelte Jello Wranglers? Why would they need an official haircut?
I'll say this for him, he's consistent. It's probably best they didn't go with the shaved head, and settled for giving her the SJW haircut.
I agree that the primary BTS motivation was probably a mix of "it looks cool" and "we need a visual reminder of Burnham's guilt", but I also always interpreted it as a glimpse of her character -- she rejects visually minimizing the injury, and chooses instead to display it as a badge of honor.
