Ontario Provincial Politics

As I've said before, and this is me personally, but I feel it's not so much her, but the fact that we've had a long tenure under the Liberals and are ready for change. I could care less who she is or her sexual orientation, and it's sad that some feel the need to get personal with her, and unfortunately that's all getting mixed in with the valid reasons for wanting her gone. Sometimes we just need a breath of fresh air. Sometimes we need to smell the roses. Sometimes the province needs to change parties in order to make progress, or to learn and grow.

She may not deserve disdain, but I think she also has to realize how long a tenure she's had, and that voting her party out may be necessary.

I did watch it (eyes are still thankfully intact! ;) ), and the Harris cuts to health care and education were brought up a couple of times.

fair enough - that part didn't make the report in the Star - merely ford's comments about rae.

It really strikes me how, well... empty Doug Ford is, for lack of a better term. Not only during the debate, but in the scrum afterwards. Severe lack of details, never directly answering anything. I know avoiding a question is sort of a politician thing, but... well, let's just say for someone who goes on and on about how much he dislikes/distrusts politicians, he sure sounds like one.

Long before the election, I predicted the tories would run primarily on not being the liberals and hoping that would be enough to get them across the line without much in the way of policy details. Then brown came out with his policy platform (and some of it was quite good but pissed off the hard right of the party and probably played a role in his downfall). then along comes ford and the whole lot goes out the wind and it's back to we're not the liberals.

the tory leader repeated today that yes all the policy details would be released but still no time frame.

ford is like trump - claims to be disdainful of the "elites" but yet is very much one of them - even more so then the idiot down south. son of MPP, former city council, family company worth millions, well off.

The NDP have again slipped to second place in the polls but the margin is around with the tories at 37.5%. The article on the CBC said the drop in the polls for the NDP was people paying closer attention which would be rather ironic given the lack of substance in the tory platform. Also I think that with that sort of figure, ford's best chance could be a minority govt which would oust the liberals but put the brakes on if they got really nasty.

We'll probably all miss her terribly when she's gone. :sigh:

If ford becomes premiere with a majority I think very much so.

I stand corrected the tories are back in front by 3% at 37% which could be enough to get majority govt (damn you fptp).

I'm just somewhat afraid of what lesson it is we're going to learn if it's the PCs! ;)

Lighting our rears on fire? ;) But Yes! This is why I feel it's such an important time to vote, and I hope voters go out and do so. Come on, Ontario, make us beautiful again!

was said on the news tonight that the tories are backtracking on the ford's promise to release a costed and detailed platform before the campaign ends and that their website has been updated to reflect this.

Frankly it's not surprising.

I know at the end of the day it might not amount to much but when you're claiming to be all about fiscal responsibility etc and you can't even at least go through the motions.

it's not out side the realm of possibility that ford's approach is little more than policy on the run.

An article on it is now online via the Toronto Star.

Seems even members of his own party aren't that happy with ford over the issue.

Ford faced criticism from the NDP — now ahead of the PCs in some polls — and the Liberals, who accuse the Tories of having a $40 billion budget hole, and even from within his own party.

Two Conservative sources told the Star that Ford’s platform not only lacks a fiscal plan but also wasn’t formally approved by the party’s policy committee, as is required by the PC constitution.

Yeah, it's like the mouth is saying something but the hands are doing something else entirely. Coming from Ford, not surprising.

Anyway, I voted yesterday.

Ford's so against the elites, he's even against his own party's elites! ;)

So, Wynne conceding defeat is interesting. She realizes it's an uphill battle at this point. Some liberal candidates are still fighting though, like our local MP Glenn Thibeault who's also Energy Minister who still thinks he has a chance to the point that it's cute. Nevermind the fact that even if he did win under an NDP majority, he wouldn't be much of a voice.

opinion does seem to be divided on her announcement. Personally I think it's a gutless way out. Even when the batter knows he's out, there's still the expectation to run hell for leather to first cos you never know the if the fielder is gonna fumble the ball.

And why am I not the suprised with the claim that ford's snout is in the deco trough even when the company isn't doing so well.

Yeah, I'm mixed on it. I've never heard of a candidate do such a thing before. The better thing would have been to just run with it and admit gracious defeat at the proper time. I've heard that it's being done this way as a possible diversionary tactic. She knows she can't win at this point, but what she's currently doing is hoping the party wins a few seats in the province to prevent a full majority, which could just as easily backfire for them given one would want an MP to be representative a district, and thus would want the best chance with a party in power.

I think Wynne's move could work to save a few seats if either the NDP or OPC had a substantial lead, but with the NPD and OPC neck-and-neck in the polls I think it will backfire on her. I imagine that soft Liberal supporters would rather cast their vote to decide whom becomes premier over propping up a party that's already conceded defeat.

Because there wasn't already enough drama, so why not go full-on Dallas?

But since we can't go more than a day without another headline even worse than the last...

PC candidate Raymond Cho apologizes over physical altercation with Grade 7 student outside Scarborough school

So are we looking at two more days until the madness ends... or five years of madness??

more details on the issue with the rob ford estate.

Seems there's been a complete lack of accounting details on the value of the estate - now why does that sound familiar?

Yeah, there was one article I read that made that very point. In that sense, they'd feel like they're wasting a vote on a party that doesn't have much of a chance. It'd be like throwing a vote away. And let's say, even if a candidate did win that wasn't from the party in power that's not of very much use if the riding doesn't have much representation. And in some districts, that's absolutely crucial. That's why I feel northern communities like the Timiskaming area who have been NDP supporters who now want to switch up to being a PC riding should wait a bit as their decision could be rash. If the NDP end up winning a majority, they'll be in yet another position of not getting much help, and that saddens me. Everyone has an eye on that community as one of the hot spots of the election. Also feel mine is quite interesting given what happened with the by-election scandal.

My father told me he's voting PC, but he thinks and hopes NDP is going to win. I asked him if he hopes NDP is going to win why he doesn't vote for them, and he just said "Never!".

I am not keen on the NDP but I'd vote for Andrea if I still lived in Ontario. Would plug my nose while casting my ballot... something not everyone is willing to do. They always say, "Vote for the Person, not the Party." I don't think we can live in those times anymore. We need to be way more strategic.

Rob Ford's brother repeatedly told his supporters: "An NDP government would destroooooooy Ontario! It would destrooooy it!" So my question to you, folks, is this. Do you want to see Ontario destroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooyed??

The Ontario PC's deserve to win this election, but Rob Ford's brother doesn't deserve to be premiere.

well courtesy of the abomination that is fptp the post it looks like the doug the dealer is going to be the next premier on Ontario.

Any takers on how long before people wake up and realise they've made a hell of a mistake?

The voters are angry and they voted angry. They are gonna have to sit in this festering political climate for years now.
