Star Trek 4 Enterprise-A

Syd Shanshala

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
We saw the ship change slightly through the first 3 movies...anyone have predictions of how they will alter the design we saw at the end of beyond for Star Trek 4?

There will probably be some small alterations from what we saw at the end of Beyond, but I doubt the changes will be very drastic

I bet it will be subtly different in almost every way. It will "look like the Enterprise" but be re-made from scratch.

I would like to see a fully realized Main Engineering, down in the lower levels of the ship. I never liked the soda plant location from the 1st 2 films.

It's amazing how much I don't like the designs and asthetics of these films. I like the movies on the whole...just don't care at all about the designs.

The Enterprise-A from BEY was less interesting than the original ship from the first 3 movies.

It'll look like however they can 'tweak' the existing computer model cheapest.

They'll have to tweak the shuttle bay and fantail area anyway because the studio CG model has no detail whatsoever there because it was never seen on camera.

I think it looks fine as-is, but I wonder if they'll subtly alter the proportions in a similar way to how the 1701 changed between the end of Into Darkness and Beyond (or Insurrection and Nemesis, for that matter)?
Perhaps they'll sweep the nacelle pylons back like the original 1701-A?

As for the inside, I predict a bridge and some corridors along the lines of the last 3 movies. If CBS and Paramount were on closer terms, I'd expect them to "pull a Star Trek V/VI" and re-use Discovery sets, which are fine and would save them some $$$.

I think those huge factory interiors on the Kelvin and Enterprise gave an amazing sense of scale that no other Trek has matched.

personally, i'm anticipating major revisions in all aspects of the production design. it will have been so long since star trek beyond by the time this film premieres, the producers will probably take the opportunity to design it from the ground up. even if it's still in keeping with the design and style started by the 2009 film, it'll probably totally new, with no reuse -- even the uniforms and props we just got for beyond will probably be revamped.

i'd rather they not radically change much, but the nature of changing directors is also changing tastes.

I would be very happy if the nacelles of the Ent-A were swept back for the fourth movie! :)

TBH, I’m a cheap date (sci-fi design-wise) - mention swept back nacelles in almost any franchise / genre / design and my interest is piqued!

Eaglemoss is holding back from making the E-A model until a new film is out. So we only got pictures till then. :wah:

I concur. There was such a brief glimpse of the A at the end of Beyond, the general audience won’t notice at all if it maintains the usual saucer/engineering hull/nacelles configuration. The only thing I expect them to keep is the gold/blue/red uniform color scheme.

Exterior, probably more or less what we saw in Beyond. Interior on the other hand I hope they get rid of that post-modern Apple Store look which just feels like a douchebag magnet.

Agree - didn't like the bridge either n not because I'm an Android guy.....

also didn't like white walls w black floors in the interior I'm sure ext will be reworked as the A in Beyond was put together at the end, last minute-ish

it's kind of in vogue to constantly update tech in sci-fi sequels... the transformers always look different, iron man's armor is always new, every superhero suit gets an upgrade between films... i actually look forward to seeing what they come up with for the enterprise-A mark II.

I was disappointed by the 1701-A+ at the end of the movie, since the Enterpise seen in Beyond was literally a new design of the ship or a modified version from the JJship. As brief as this new sleeker Enterprise was, I wish I could see more of that design.

By the time the movie comes out, it will have been at least 10 years since ST09. For comparison, look at how the big E changed between TMP and TFF. Some of that had to do with reused sets and budget issues, but still, I think the design will be a significant modification from what we saw in 2009. There's probably a reason we didn't see the bridge or other interiors at the end of Beyond. Maybe they didn't want to repeat the same mistake made at the end of TVH.

I can't remember anything about the look of the E-A, so long as they fix the hideous nacelles from the JJprise I'd be happier (it'd be a step in the right direction at least). As for the interiors then it should be toned down and made to look more practical, an environment where people actual live and work in without worries over eyestrain and glare. Maybe even take a page from TOS and go with a "less is more" approach: simpler, clean cut lines and bolder aesthetics. So long as they don't go too far the other way and make the bridge really dark and dingy.
