USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

You know, looking at it closer now I think Gepard is correct about the pylons being straighter. They connect to the nacelles more towards the fore, and to the engineering section more towards the back. Don't know what that means for the ship's profile.

ETA: And now that I look even closer it might indeed be just a painting because the pylon on the starboard side doesn't seem to connect at the same spot as the one portside.

And the compact aspect of the ship is a negative but it's not a deal-breaker.

For me, that's a bad thing. Still, I've seen worse (particularly on this show).

Eh, still not a huge fan. It's not terrible, but it could have been better. Also ridiculous they kept the 60s deflector. 6/10.
Tell you both what, we can extend the neck as long as we can ditch the pee pee deflector.

Its just so wrong.

Sound fair?

Something about that painting makes the bottom of the engineering section look slightly flattened in an unattractive way, which was not an issue I noticed with the version from the season finale.

How likely will it be that we see the Discoprise refit to look like the TOS version(short of the overall new length)?
less then 1.

The bussards on the calendar version also appear to have blades/ribbing like the Crossfield (or Kelvin Enterprise) while the show version was closer to NX-01/TOS Connie bussards.

If this is the way the Enterprise will look in the first episode of Season 2 I can live with it. Her hull color is right and even though I'm still not a fan of the Phase II/TMP-style pylons this early in her history I can't complain much about the final result. There are a few things I'd change (I still think the neck should be a little longer and closer to how it looked on TOS) but the nacelles are more or less the right shape and length, the deflector dish looks the way it should and the saucer section is more or less what we saw on TOS.

In short: I'm fine with this Enterprise if this is the one the producers are giving us.

See it happen? Not likely with these producers.

That said, TOS is still almost eight years off. That's a lot of time for a starship to be refit to what we see commanded by Kirk. Some ships change a lot more than this in less time.

I really like the design but I just can't stand the whole "visual reboot too far" thing. TOS Enterprise with a bit more surface detail was all that was needed. For me this ship continues to be a symbol of the disregard the showrunners have for all the hard work put in by previous productions. It just says to me "we don't care".
