USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

As you stated, there was a lot riding on this show. And, this might sound extremely forgiving, but it doesn't bother me. Missed opportunity? Certainly, and maybe they'll go back and do a TOS-R on Season 1, kind of like "Children of the Gods" was revisited for graphics and audio after the show found its footing.

But, I don't expect perfection, especially not on this production, and, like you, it will not stop me from enjoying the show.
Absolutely, as I said I can live with it I just find it a shame and a missed opportunity although there is the possibility of it being rectified in a future season.

Even so someone from marketing should be shouting at someone from production for the lost sales of the updated Klingon ship models, I really cant see them selling many of the D7 and Bird of Prey that we saw in the first season.

Ultimately the more the show makes from viewership, advertising and especially merchandising the greater the chances that it will keep going which is in everyone's interests, especially after Star Trek Enterprise sank without leaving a trace even though it was on the air for 4 seasons.

I suspect Discovery will be backed to the bitter end by CBS simply due to it being the big draw for their streaming service, the cancellation of the show would cause the streaming service to take a serious hit to its credibility and potential future.

Possibly. However, I suspect if All Access doesn't work out the way the want, then Discovery will change. Or be cancelled.

If All Access starts to founder as a streaming platform for the series then I imagine the show will move to Netflix worldwide and go from there. If the series tanks it doesn't necessarily take CBS All Access with it, but if the platform starts to go under then CBS will likely want to salvage their most expensive and heavily-marketed one-hour drama and put it on another service. Netflix seems to be the no-brainer if All Access doesn't pan out in the long run as a sustainable subscription platform.

Both are possible, I think we are going to end up with too many streaming services, once it reaches a certain point there will have to be some consolidation as viewers are not going to want to be paying for so many different services at the same time.

The independents like Netflix would then be in an ideal position to benefit the most from that as long as they are smart and are willing to be flexible on terms.

The deflector appears to have two prongs? It didn’t in the episode.

That’s weird. Maybe it’s an earlier version of the model, or based on an earlier concept.

The hull is lighter then I thought it would be.

Hellllllllo new desktop!

Decent lighting helps, as does the fact that this angle downplays my two major problems with it (the swept-back nacelle pylons and too-short neck).

IMO, these alterations fix two major sticking points the haters have harped on about her for decades, long spindly looking pylons and neck.

They both look great, the nacelles are splayed out a lot more on the 1701 and the shorter neck looks great too, they may extend the neck to make it higher in a refit that happens before we reach the ToS era although I think it looks fine as it is.

Makes the Enterprise look more compact with a lower profile which for me is no bad thing.

Still a question mark over how much of a size boost the Enterprise has received, you can clearly see the two decks in the saucer edge now but its tricky as there doesn't seem to be as many windows as the Kelvin version, it must be said that it could just be because the lights are not on so we cant see them as easily, plus we know that this Enterprise will get a considerable crew size boost in the future which may have already happened on the Kelvin 1701 and 1701-A, that would account for the increased number of windows due to more crew cabins in the saucer on those ships that are launched much later.

Originally it looked about 450-500m at most but I am now starting to think 550-600m maybe, as we get closer to the new season I am sure we will see more footage and pictures which will make it clearer.

I love the bevelled saucer edge on this Enterprise and the Kelvin 1701-A.

Wish they would ditch the sensor/deflector dish prongs as it looks too 60's, much prefer the Kelvin blue glow version.

Edit: Some of those windows on the top row saucer edge look like they are floor to ceiling as well and if so that saucer is bigger than even I thought, now I really want to know the official size.

I don’t think the models in that image are the show used ones (if they’re models they could be digital drawings), the Discovery is also oddly coloured and shaded.

They've actually strightened the pylons in this image – compare where the pylon attaches to the secondary hull here vs. in the episode. They've shifted the attachment point back by about half the width of the pylon, as compared with the shuttlebay undercut.

It looks more finished than the one we got in the series. I suspected that they hid it in a poorly-lit nebula because it wasn't fully ready yet.

I think it's a digital painting not a render of a model.

If the Defiant wireframe was based on an earlier design of the DSC Connie then it could have had a two pronged deflector earlier in its life, and this art is based on a not final version of the design.

You might be right. I still think the model we saw on the show wasn't quite finished yet.

And I also think it'd look better if the neck was taller. Otherwise I'm happy with it.

I think it was final for that episode. Those scenes were not any darker the normal space scenes in discovery.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was touched up for Season 2 however.

The reason why I say that is that if you look at the connection between the engineering section and the pylon we see up close, it looks a bit polygonal. That's why I got that impression.
