Does it annoy anyone else that people expect you to be hardcore liberal if you're a Trekkie

I've volunteered at food banks. I know personally people who went there and lied about shit to get better food, specifically said they had kids so they could get cookies which they only gave to people with kids as they had limited amounts. Most of the food was quite crappy other than free veg and bread. However there were MANY reasons people came to get free food and they weren't all related to money. Some of it was wanting the community on offer, they'd come in, get their free loaf of bread and sit and chat. See at the end of the day there aren't too many people who can't buy a loaf of bread or a tin of beans so who actually "needs" the food isn't always about not having 5 dollars in your pocket.

The "worthy poor" is a horror idea that is nothing but judgement. Of course people came for food who spent most of their welfare on drink or drugs, and people came who were mentally ill and owned their own house but for them having a cup of tea and being given something was emotionally important.

It's quite possible to get to a place in life where years have gone by without being given anything by anyone. It's a lonely sad place.

So a lot more is given freely at food banks than the actual food. And if someone scammed some cookies that day well that's just the risk you take, it's not the end of the world.

And yes, the NHS does sometimes do cosmetic breast surgery, in the same way they sometimes do cosmetic hair lip surgery.

It's usually to correct psychological problems related to undeveloped breasts, or different sized breasts. If you don't put any importance on those sorts of psychological problems, due to ignorance or plain indifference, you'd probably dismiss them as "cosmetic boob jobs".

I'm conservative, but what I like about Star Trek besides the sci fi aspect and so on is that I do think in the future the world will be a lot more like that. I just believe right now we aren't ready for peace (or liberal ideology), and peace that is being shoved down our throats. Let it come gradually, else we're going to have to wait longer for those peaceful times to come.

Sadly due to the stubborn nature of some humans, sometimes we only get social change after a long bloody fight. You really think equal rights based on skin colour, gender and sexuality would come about after peaceful dialogue? The world of Star Trek on Earth took place after a bloody WW3.

I am currently working with a friend of mine to help a non-profit food bank/kitchen in Hollywood. They serve about 200 meals a night, and one rule they have: they don't ask anything. You don't have to be homeless, or poor, or whatever. Partly because no one is really going to show up there for a free meal when they don't have to, but partly because of an open philosophy. We feed anyone who walks in the door. No questions asked. No litmus test. No "deserving" or "worthy enough".

You come in, you get a nice hot meal.

Shame not included.

I suspect any type of cosmetic surgery done on the NHS is done to correct medical issues (such as those highlighted above amongst other reasons) and not vanity issues., Even I've had what would be classed as cosmetic surgery done on the NHS but it was due to a medical condition.

Who is this "we"? Some countries are considered more liberal than others so it would seem some people are ready for liberal ideology a better question to ask would be why are people so opposed to liberal ideology?

War whilst sometimes necessary should if at all possible be avoided by trying to work out things in a peaceful way, so exactly what peace is being shoved down our throats?

Hair loss, on the other hand, is usually a natural process and is more akin to getting wrinkles. A better comparison would be whether the NHS distinguishes between alopecia in males and females. By and large it doesn't, even where that is the result of medical conditions.

As you say I think the criteria for cosmetic surgery is more down to conditions either related to a medical condition or to prevent conditions rather than those related to the natural ageing process.
