It's so odd we never heard who that was, I know the book says it's an Admiral and others say it was a Helmsman, but yeesh..nobody gave a crap to even mention it on screenMaybe Decker's XO was beaming up with Sonak?

As for who the other person in the transporter malfunction was, maybe it was the original Navigator, with Ilia being a last minute replacement, seeing as how her arrival seemed to surprise everyone (and you think they'd know just who they'd be serving with).
^ Even with films I've seen dozens of times I still don't like commentary tracks, it's too much like someone trying to speak with you in a film and I find it really off putting![]()
I read somewhere recently that Uhura was up for the job of Decker's XO.

It's possible, about as likely as Sulu (if we ignore the implication that she was after at least Sulu and the Assistant Chief Engineer in the chain of command in TOS), but I still think it's more likely that Scotty was the XO. BTW, it would also have made more sense to keep Decker as XO only and "promote" Sulu or Chekov to Science Officer (the former started as an Assistant Science Officer and the later was occassionally seen as Spock's relief/back-up in TOS).
If you know what I mean. Nudge nudge.Decker busies himself with the Ilia probe.
He can sit in my lap any time he wants...I thought Chakotay had one, the position of lapdog.![]()
Outside of these very few vexing moments, William T. Riker was an outstanding TNG character whose adventures I've followed with great interest.
Or just stand the whole time while on the bridge.Probably because in TOS, there wasn't enough room on the bridge for a dedicated first officer's chair, so the XO would have to double up at another station.
