USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

You do realize that people can appreciate various things about a piece, and are not required to adhere to a certain standard, right? Golden ratio or not, I appreciate the variation on the design.

Also, golden ration isn't as applicable as many would assert.

If you like it, great. Let's not run to science to prove how right we are in our enjoyment of design.

 

And in another rare case, I agree with you. The nacelles are too close together and the secondary hull too far forward. The really thin secondary hull is a little strange looking too.

It's not ugly the way it was in the movies, just a bit "off". Their A fixes those things to some extent.

 

I take the "Life's too short" route

 

I actually pretty much flat-out dislike the Enterprise design (inside and out) from the Kelvinverse films. It doesn't inspire hatred and malaise in me like how other fans react to design elements they don't like, but I would never buy a toy or a model of that ship.

I like the films just fine...but the Enterprise design is probably my least-favorite in the lineage.

I won't rate the Kelvinverse E-A because I don't really care.

 

It seems to me that in a good deal of the new interpretations of the TOS Enterprise, Abrams, Fan Creations, and now Discovery, keep referencing the the 1979 Refit/A design.

I've always seen that design as a near work of art that you just can't improve upon.

 

It's funny, this paragraph is being said to the same people who said it to Abramsverse haters.

 

There should not be any JJ esthetics on the 1701 due to no contact between the two universes. TMP influences make no sense if this is the PU. Where are the NX nacelle influences in the other ships?

 

They both have common influences and tech design. One universe went one way and one universe went the other.

It's not ridiculous.

 

In the PU, there was no 24th century designs from Nero's ship scanned be the Kelvin.

 

I doubt that the KT-Constitution had that pattern of saucer windows and a torpedo launcher in the neck because the Kelvin hacked Federation design-spoilers out of the Narada computer. More than likely, those concepts were already on the drawing board, or the factors that led to them were accelerated, so the same idea was thought of a few years earlier.

 

The Narada is an absolutely bonkers design for a Romulan vessel if you haven't read the Countdown graphic novel that explained where the ship came from, why it looked the way and what made it that enormous and powerful. At least the Kelvin Timeline Enterprises look more or less like the Prime Timeline versions of the ship even if they're on steroids and have more grotesque proportions. The Narada is probably the most bizarre ship in all of Star Trek that's piloted by a familiar species.

I mean, you can at least tell that the Jellyfish is a spacecraft of some sort with a cockpit and a frontal assembly. The Narada looks like a colossal aquatic life form left adrift in space, and now it wants revenge for being abandoned in the cold, dark vacuum.

 

The refit Enterprise is a nearly perfect refinement of the TOS ship in most respects.

Actually, if Discovery herself looked more like that she'd be a better ship.

Yeah, that fits to the blocky design aesthetic of Discovery pretty well. I'm glad that it didn't happen.

 

Found these renders but couldn't find the original artist (Artist if you made these please say so I can give proper credit). Really neat take on the DSC style on a 1701 layout. The window probably needs to be a bit smaller but overall could very much see this in the new/old 1701 design.

The fact that there is already a window on Pike STD-Prise already pissed off half the "Trekkies" on the Internet. If it's they actually show the bridge with this large a window the Interwebz will explode.

Full disclosure: Ship design leaves me firmly in the emotional register of “meh”. If it’s got the basic shape (as this example does), it’s fine by me.

(Yes, I know. My view is very much in the minority around here—however, for the casual viewer, I’d bet my annual salary it would be shrugged off as “oh look, new special effects”).

 

This would be pretty cool really. God I hope they don't make it glarringly retro
