USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I kinda like that TAS engine room conduit or passageway. I could see warp plasma being redirected through that to another location in engineering like some sort of pressure valve. I don't know if the creators of the show intended that to be a forerunner to the vertical warp core we got in TMP but it kind of fits in with continuity even if it's a complete accident. :)

But what if next season isn't dark? Kind of goes against the name.
Well the official reason for the USS Discovery being so dark (and I mean actually dark, not thematically) was Lorca's eye condition, but the Shenzhou before her was equally dark so that doesn't really hold water.

But yes, a change in tone and visual style will necessitate a new name. I kinds hope they don't though, I am quite fond of Grimdark Bluniverse.

The writers were able to get away - on the whole - with having Kirk and Riker behave the way that they did because the characters were male.

If the writers had tried to make the characters female and written them a being openly flirtatious and promiscuous in the same way that the male versions of those characters were, the backlash would have been severe, both in the '60s and '80s as well as now.

Yet you cannot explain what is changed.
Female Kirk actually has to carry David to term, and I don't imagine a heavily pregnant Jamie Kirk would be much use against the Gorn.

Also some might take issue with Jamie Kirk getting her top ripped off over and over.

If Kirk were genderbent or sex-changed, some stories wouldn't change at all. "The Doomsday Machine," same. "The Ultimate Computer," ditto.

Some stories of course would change, chiefly those where Kirk gets romantically involved. However, most could be altered with only minor tweaks and sex, pronoun swapping, etc. No big deal, really.

Probably the biggest change would be to "The Paradise Syndrome." Even in this case, the straightforward path to adaptation suggests itself, but it actually adds some interesting twists. Instead of marrying Miramanee and fathering a child with her, Kirk could instead become her rival and marry the medicine man in her place. Kirk herself becoming pregnant and then losing the child herself would radically alter the story.

Not going to dive into registry numbers. Maybe the Enterprise will take some damage in DSC shows and will revert back to the T&T model or the IAMD Defiant look?

Yeah events change. A male changes the character, which would not act the same way. A homosexual Kirk also vastly changes things. You seem think think gender and sexuality have no impact, this is incorrect.
No woman could act way Kirk acts? Really? Were you also opposing Sulu being gay?
