More Trek Series?

Now that the first season of Star Trek: Discovery is in the can, do you think CBS will green light any new series to air in between Discovery seasons or even have them running back to back?

I know there was a comment made by CBS about possibly having numerous series going at once, so I wonder if that is still a possibility depending on how Discovery performed for them.

I know it wouldn't happen, but if they wanted and were able to, they could pick up the complete Star Trek Continues series and show it while filming season two of Discovery. There is also the possibility of the Meyers' project. I would like to see one set post Nemesis/Voyager, which would be nice so we could have both ends of the spectrum.

That's because they never get it right. I would be so into an origins story. A better one this time with a really different premise and a different looking ship. Like Galaxy Quest!

So what I want is actually a prequel to Star Trek, set in the 1600s and follows the crew of the HMS Enterprise. (It will all end as just being a Holodeck simulation in an episode of TNG)
We haven't had enough prequels and revisiting past events in Trek.

I really want something new as well, something we haven't seen or heard about. I want them to take a blank canvas and be bold and imaginative instead of playing it safe with these paint-by-the-number prequel series.

What I don't want is for them to just do what they've always done. I'd want them to do something really outside the box, like a Lower Decks series, Starfleet Academy, a series about a Klingon ship, something like that.

I would love for more Star Trek series. Be it about the Romulan War and Birth of the Federation like Enterprise was supposed to do if it had continued or the adventures of the Enterprise-B or -C. Or set just after Voyager or a century after Voyager. I don't really care. As long as there are more than 15 episodes a year of Star Trek. I want 26 episodes at least and each TV series should have its own showrunners and writers with fresh ideas. Not like the Berman era when there was one person overseeing everything for 15 years. That's just not healthy.

I'd love a ship about a hard working border patrol crew, whose roles ensuring the safety and security of the edges of Federation space, it isn't glamorous and won't make the headlines of the Federation News Service, but it is important work that saves lives and pitches our motley band of heroes up against the odds frequently with only each other and their own guile and tenacity to get them through.

A Star Trek series based around one of the other dominant Alpha quadrant races could be interesting. Cardassians would be my preference.

Starfleet and The Federation would only appear sporadically and we'd only see them from a Cardassian viewpoint.

I am still waiting for Starfleet Academy series, they have been promising for last 15 years. And let's set it somewhere between Enterprise-B and Enterprise-C eras. There is so much un-explored time there. I don't want to go too far into the future.

Personally, I want a Starfleet Academy series, with a young Kirk, Spock and company saving the galaxy between classes. Smallville Trek 90210, if you will.

I've heard rumours of a Captain Pike series or miniseries being in development, as well as earlier rumours of a Khan-in-exile thing. I just hope each show has a unique identity and feel, and it doesn't end up Marvel-style series spam, where only a couple among dozens are worth watching.

Something different could work very well. For example, I've posted this elsewhere, but a concept I had (and am currently developing as an original non-trek novel series) is this:

I've had a very rough idea of what a post-Voyager/Nemesis show could be like for awhile now. Like I said, very rough, but here are my thoughts using some stuff from the Destiny novels as a springboard...

Setup

2381

The destruction of two planets is followed by a message.

“We are the Borg. You will be annihilated.”

Continuing attacks soon lead to a full scale Borg Invasion into the Alpha and Beta Quadrants resulting in the Federation entering into a multi-world alliance to battle them.

As the Borg attack planet after planet, ships from the Federation Alliance are sent to prevent the attack and destruction of an Independent world on the fringes of Federation space.

Adelphous IV

Shortly after Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, this has been the location of a top secret joint project between the Federation, Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, and Cardassian Union to develop a prototype ship to use against the Borg.

Unfinished, the prototype ship is unable to assist in fending off a calculated Borg attack and the fleet is nearly destroyed.

Before the Borg cubes are able to destroy the world, an anomaly appears and the planet begins to disintegrate. The planet, surviving ships, and debris of the destroyed are sucked into the anomaly.

Unknown Galaxy

Adelphous IV reforms in orbit of a class K star in a galaxy beyond the known universe, along with ships and debris in orbit.

Some debris from wrecked ships is caught in the planets gravity as it reforms and rains down to the surface creating a ship graveyard planetside along with the one in orbit.

Surviving ships are heavily damaged and require varying amounts of repair to be operational, limiting travel to only shuttles.

For the most part, everything on the surface survived undamaged.

Series Possibilities

The mystery of the anomaly and who or what is responsible for it is at the forefront of the first season. They have hope of finding a way home but it is tempered with the realization they could be stuck there forever.

The damaged ships limit the exploration to the range of working shuttles.This instills an urgency to repair the ships. There is also the possibility of the prototype ship that is near completion in a construction facility beneath the planet's surface.

The mixture of powers on an independent world creates a possible struggle for power. What shape will a new government take? What would a new federation look like as it raises from a memory of the one that came before?

What inhabited worlds are nearby? If any, they offer a chance for assistance if not hostile. What technology may they offer and will it be accepted/traded for or will the idea of a Prime Directive survive?

Summed Up

A story about the people on this planet who've been blasted into some unknown reality and whom are struggling to decide what to do and how to survive. Let them be like the audience, wondering what the hell happened that got them there. Some characters will be trying to piece together an answer to what happened and how to get back, while others will accept the hand they've been dealt and decide they have to figure out how to live with each other in this forbidding new place. These two groups can have conflicting goals over limited resources (we have to use these ships to build a means to get home vs. we have to use these ships to build a means to defend ourselves or build a new civilization).

I'd like to see a Star Trek show about exploration myself. We've had 35 years of 'pew pew' Trek. I'm sick and tired of hearing people be they fans or pros (or both) pitching ideas of new shows/films that deal with fighting the Cardassians or the Romulans or talking about how many phaser banks or photon/quantum torpedoes a ship has. Let's not forget the Star Fleet charter:
'To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life(forms) and new civilisations, to boldly go where no one has gone before'.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pacifist and I enjoy me a little 'pew pew' as much as the next guy or gal. I'm also one of those fans who regards Star Fleet as the Federation's navy i.e. a military organisation for all the TNG-era protestations to the contrary, but in peacetime, science and exploration are Star Fleet's number one priority.

While I agree with you in theory, Star Trek was rarely about exploring, even in TOS and TNG.

Now...IF (and that's a big "if") they could pull off an arc-based season that was built around exploring for some plot reason, I'd be all for it. But "anomalies and planet of the week" VOY episodes aren't going to cut it. They need something much more cohesive and meaningful than that.
