Until now, I couldn't definitively pin down Lorca. I was mostly sure he was from the mirror universe. There was a moment in this episode that completely verified that all of the "where the hell are we?" stuff is an act. Burnham(was it Burnham? Maybe Saru?) suggests looking back through the navigational records to see what went wrong. He immediately cuts her off with his own theory and how to proceed, covering up his deed. This can only delay the inevitable discovery of his "override."
If Lorca isn’t from the MU, then at a minimum he intentionally took the ship there for some reason. He’s undoubtedly hiding something.

All the comments about Mary Wiseman and Tilly’s appearance are absolutely disgusting. I dare everyone who posted them to post pictures of themselves. I doubt they will, most are probably in worst shape themselves while having an incredibly sexist idea of how women should look. This is also why they’ll never find a partner, insane standards.

I’ve always thought the Mirror Universe is over the top. How can they possibly work together or get anything accomplished when they’re always plotting murder or torturing each other or trying to stay alive?
But this is an interesting storyline. I assume Georgiou is the Empress and Burnham will have to fight her.

I also can’t figure out how they turned Voq into Tyler. Did they graft Voq’s consciousness into the human Tyler so they’re both there in his brain or did they physically turn a Klingon into a human based on Tyler’s physiology? How did they do it?

I also think Stamets will revive Culber in the next episode. I doubt he’s dead for good. Silver eyes means psi power and godlike abilities. Hopefully they can return Stamets to normal.

I like Captain Killy. She’s such a refreshing character. And Lorca is still hands down my favorite, regardless of whether he is from the Mirrorverse or not.

Earlier you said you have to know what happened in the mirror universe Enterprise episodes to understand this episode.

The extra details around that ship are superfluous to the story and only adds colour to us Trekkies who have seen every minute of the franchise.

Just gonna ditto that I know people who are new to Star Trek, barely have any idea what Enterprise is, and absolutely had no trouble understanding Defiant as a plot point. Generally, right, and I know it's a bold claim in 2018, but generally people are fairly smart and capable of following plots.

Indeed. Any claims otherwise are a form of what you'd call good ol' gatekeeping. "Oh you wouldn't understand, you're not a *real* fan."

Agreed. Completely aside from the fact that Mary is a very pretty young lady, Tilly is fucking adorable and I will fight anyone who says differently.

I'm convinced Lorca is from the MU. I'm wondering if, as the Discovery passing across was a straight swap, 'our' Lorca also switched places with his counterpart - or perhaps the entire ISS Buran switched with the USS Buran, and then was promptly destroyed by Lorca to cover his tracks.

I also can’t figure out how they turned Voq into Tyler. Did they graft Voq’s consciousness into the human Tyler so they’re both there in his brain or did they physically turn a Klingon into a human based on Tyler’s physiology? How did they do it?
Culber's implication in the episode was that he was physically deformed into a human shape - scar tissue around the organs, crushed and reset bones etc. Doesn't make much sense though.

Since there's nothing abnormal about Tyler's organs themselves, only scarring around them, it's also possible these are human organs transplanted into Voq's body as his skeleton was being kaleidoscoped.

Interesting how Arne Darvin didn't get the same treatment, though, several years later with ostensibly more advanced tech available to do a better job, yet McCoy had his number within seconds of scanning basic vitals.

I do believe mirror Sylvia has at least two weaknesses, though. She is inordinately fond of fake pop bands from the 80's, and funny cartoon characters.

In other words: Captain Killy Milli Vanilli Chilly Willy.

Guards! Seize him!

Edit: Awesome Possum:

Not all. And if you need my picture, say so and I'll upload it and post it in thread. (I'm the one who said it's refreshing to see women who aren't supermodels on-screen. She looks like someone I'd meet IRL. Well being an actress, she has to be pretty, of course.)

I was talking about the ones insulting her appearance.

Why wonder? It's right there in the dialogue. She offed the previous captain while he was recovering from Crestian flu.
Obviously she killed the previous Captain, that's how it works. I was wondering if we got the poor saps name.

^^^ See, I love it. You disagreed with me in a respectful way. We see things a little differently. Ultimately, for me, it's truly the personality that is the most attractive as cliche as that sounds. Looks are mostly subjective. But she is my type, looks a lot like my wife with the blonde hair and all. Mirror universe Tilly acts like my wife too. I suppose the attraction may lie there.

Do people really feel she is comparable to Neelix? Dude was totally cringeworthy. Worst character in the franchise IMHO.

I can find someone attractive but not be attracted to them as there is no deeper emotional connection than looks with the former but a connection with their presonality on the later.
