Yeah the MU was used in DS9 to 'do' LGBT without it being 'real', but ended up, probably inadvertently in all fairness, presenting LGBT as an 'evil' characteristic.

They were going more for kinky and sexy than evil IMO. Also evil back then was allowed to be more fun and cool because people didn't take sci-fi so serious. It's one of the reasons people loved Darth Vader and the Empire even though they are basically space Nazi's.

Are those your own personal rankings or the result of some kind of poll?

Bit disingenuous to use The Cage and WNMHGB as the 'first two' episodes of TOS... yes they were both pilots but The Cage failed to sell the show, was cut up into a clip show and not seen in its original form (outside of conventions) until the eighties, while WNMHGB was the third episode to air. IIRC The Man Trap and Charlie X were the first two episodes to air, and what the viewing public would have had as their actual introduction to Star Trek.

Those were all my personal opinions. No polls. It was a Facebook Post of mine, actually.

I went by production order since that's the order they were produced in and I wasn't alive in the '60s. So how NBC aired them doesn't really matter from my perspective. I saw them first in production order through syndication in the early-'90s. Chalk it up to personal preference.

I combined the first two episodes of TOS and averaged what I thought of them (my opinion of both episodes is pretty high), since the first two episodes of DSC are also technically separate. Plus TNG, DS9, and VOY were two hours. So I thought to myself, "I'll group the first two hours of each together and average out what I thought of the TOS pilots."

But that's all getting into the weeds. The main point is, I think DSC has a very strong first season. Almost on par with TOS. It might even equal or surpass it; which is surprising -- and amazing -- to me that even I'm wondering about it.

Kirk has four medals: two medals for surviving mortal wounds, master of poisons, and a gold medal, like the silver bridge crew medal. This might be the medal for captains.

The gold one is labelled as first officer on the images I linked. Keyla is wearing it.

Going by the medals, captains in the mirror universe are muderous beasts, with Tilly and Connor having each killed fifty or more people, while Burnham has killed a 100 or more people. The three captains are masters of poisons.

I could not find the medal for those who survived a mortal wound in the episode. Maybe this medal appears later?

The Shenzhou is plaqued by deck issues. The brig with the agony booths is on deck D (signage above entryway), which might be deck 4. However, Burnham and Connor enter the turbolift on Deck 2 (turbolift schematic). The Shenzhou, according to schematic, has 9 decks with the bridge on deck 7. At one point, during the first two episodes, the starship was said to have 15 decks.
They remind me of video game achievements.

In the DSC versions of the uniforms, it seems higher the rank the better looks of the medals, the Helm (ops?) officer has a feathery silver ribben (just like Kirk's gold one) but Keyla has one that appears to be made of Metal.

All bridge officers ranked lower than the captain on the Shenzhou and the Discovery have the silver medal. Detmer has the silver medal, along with the gold medal which identifies her as a first officer. So far, I can only find the Survive Mortal Wound on Kirk's uniform.

I doubt Saru even exists in the MU. If his "counterpart" ever turns up, it will probably be a brand new character - from the predator species which inhabits Saru's homeworld.

What if he shows up as a meal for Burnham? Bridge crew is sharing a meal and the waiters bring out a nicely cooked Saru with a apple in his mouth. Turns out the predator species in the mirror universe are also gourmet chiefs. According to tradition the captain of course gets first dibs on the threat gangilia as it is the most tasty part of the food.

It's actually a common trope that villains are coded as gay or queer in some way. Disney is particular has a long history of this. For example, Ursula from The Little Mermaid was designed to resemble Divine, the drag queen from John Waters' movies. They had actually made moves to hire him to be the voice actor, but he died before anything could happen.

Now I'm super curious about the time between when Kirk went to the Mirror U, and when Kira and Bashir end up there years later. The actual fall of the Terran empire and how they went on to become subjugated in the galaxy. Wondering if this will be foreshadowed on future Discovery episodes.

Edit: man my memory is terrible, all this is explained in DS9's "Crossover"

The Shatnerverse touches on this. And there is a current run of IDW comics that’s TNG at the fall of the Terran Empire.
