Discovery seems like the strongest first season of any series. We haven't really had any duds yet like that TNG episode with the extremely racist planet that Tasha had to fight on.
Understood and agreed...but given that everything in the MU is a physical "copy..." it's fun to imagine that up to some inflection point, there were only minor differences. Then, one "big bang" item really set the stage for the divergence in that particular universe. Kind of like the Kelvin / Narada incursion "created" the JJVerse (ducks to avoid having stuff slung from people who don't like those movies)...
Keyla has the gold/broze first officers badge above the silver bridge officer badge, so she is the first officer, not just standing in for one
I have a bad feeling that Mirror Detmer might have been also in bed (literally) with the Captain...and she will be scheming against Burnham.
Why would they react in any way? They know from data said ship appeared in the MU 100 or so years in the past (Lorca even makes a comment to that effect - so yeah, it not looking EXACTLY like the actual Defiant in their Universe/Timeline of 2257 after 100+ years shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.)
Many people look at the political spectrum as a straight line, left to right. I prefer to look at it as the Greek letter Omega (Ω) where the two ends touch, being very similar in nature and two sides of the very same dark extremist coin, akin to what you said. But I agree with @SimonTC that the Stalinist/Bolshevik brand of Communism doesn't get nearly enough credit for its inherent evil that it should.

Sure. I just pointed it out because I've read some really good fan-fics over the years that basically documented the entirety of human history in the mirror universe -- which, incidentally, I've always found more interesting than most MU episodes themselves.
IDK - TOS Season One still beats it for me to this point, but of the post TOS TV Star Trek series, yes, it's been fairly strong/good out of the gate (Far, FAR better than TNG S1 <---- There was a stinker of a season nearly front to back (IMO) - YMMV.

Speaking of knives in the back, I'm kind of surprised that the Shezhou's captain's chair doesn't have the high back that the ISS Enterprise did. I had always assumed it was designed as a personal shield to the Captain, just in case someone came in through the turbolift to shoot them in the back of the head or slit their throat. That chair looked like a regular prime universe chair.
With the exception of TOS (which amazingly hit the ball out of the park), I totally agree with this.
I think what DSC has been, however, is very polarizing for fans. TNG / DS9 / VOY were all in the same immediate continuity, made by the same producers, and aired in roughly the same era (with overlap no less)...so we had 21 seasons of "normalizing" in terms of visual style, character attitudes, etc.
I think any time the franchise strays from those 100's of hours of conditioning the fans have received, everyone goes berserk (see ENT, JJ, DISCO, etc).

Good point. It does seem somewhat stab enabled. Of course, maybe that's on purpose so the Captain never lets down their guard.
Going by the medals, captains in the mirror universe are muderous beasts, with Tilly and Connor having each killed fifty or more people, while Burnham has killed a 100 or more people. The three captains are masters of poisons.
I could not find the medal for those who survived a mortal wound in the episode. Maybe this medal appears later?
The Shenzhou is plaqued by deck issues. The brig with the agony booths is on deck D (signage above entryway), which might be deck 4. However, Burnham and Connor enter the turbolift on Deck 2 (turbolift schematic). The Shenzhou, according to schematic, has 9 decks with the bridge on deck 7. At one point, during the first two episodes, the starship was said to have 15 decks.

I think the red orb one being labelled masters of poisons is a typo, I think that is meant to be the badge signifying captain.
Then you misused the term "Trek jargon", because the M.U in DSC isn't really a case of "Trek jargon". This whole comparison of characters randomly dropping technobabble like "beam me up" versus the exposition of the Mirror Universe we just had in this Ep. doesn't really add up.
The episode didn't start with Burnham going like "Hey, Captain! We're in the Mirror Universe", expecting the audience to understand instantly what she was talking about. They actually spent a lot of time trying to explain to the audience the concept of Parallel Universes and then tried to explain the characteristics of this Parallel Universe they're in.
How Parallel Universes are hard to get ? Literally every piece of Live Action Sci-fi that contained Parallel Universes in the last few decades had entire sequences dedicated only for the sake of explaining what they are. That annoying Glass Board on CW's Flash is one example that comes to mind. The same goes for Fringe, if you only watch the Episodes they're in the Red Universe you won't find it really much difficult to understand that's an Alternative Reality. Given the giant Zeppelins, the Twin Towers, the MLK dollar bills and the bronze Statue of Liberty... And the characters constantly talking about how their lives could've been different. Nope, not really difficult to guess what this "Red Universe" is all about.
