Give him the keys to the kingdom. TLJ is exactly the evolution this series needed. The only other person I'd want to see move this series forward right now is Denis Villeneuve. TFA was a fun, lightweight step sideways and a little step forwards after the prequel mess, but TLJ actively evolves the characters and was a massive step forwards for the mythology and in quality. Hugo - come at me
The only thing I disagree with here is TFA being fun. I really wish JJ wasn't doing the next one. I thought TLJ was great - I hope the new trilogy lives up to it.
I agree... Star Wars fanboys just might be more insufferable of in Star Trek fanboys. Everybody clings to the personal pre-conception of where the franchise should go and any deviation from that is seen as some type of heresy against holy writ. TLJ evolves the saga and the people who want to cling onto the past in such a rigid way are free to leave and I will be glad to see them go.
I haven’t seen TLJ yet, but I am still intrigued by the idea of another set of unrelated Star Wars movies. Part of the galaxy we haven’t seen before. I sort of hope it’s set in the deep past.
Rian's trilogy however has nothing to do with the main series, it's all new characters and a part of the galaxy we've never seen, so I don't think whatever he did in TLJ should be a factor since he won't be writing about that again.
Sorry to bump this thread, but I just had a "moment of clarity." There is no planned Rian Johnson trilogy. Think about it.
"Looper" was pretty cool, one of my favorite movies of recent. TLJ exceeded my expectations and then some, despite a couple nitpicks and having guessed in the past Luke would cower away (which, at the time, I thought might not have been the best but the writing redeemed it and then some - IMHO)). Highly recommended. It's all in safe hands with Rian.
Yes we do, they've been saying since it was first announced that his new trilogy is not connected to the main saga, and that it is focused on entirely new characters in a part of the galaxy (far, far away), that we've never seen before. I don't really see any reason that this point to assume they're lying.
Looper may actually be the key to appreciating TLJ. Luke, as a Jedi, can see the future. He sees Kylo becoming the Rainmaker.
If Johnson does a new trilogy, I hope he does a better job than he did with that mess, "The Last Jedi".
Hey you!! Leave Rian Johnson alone. He has written and directed one of the finest motion pictures to ever grace the silver screen. Nah, I'm just messin' with ya, they'll suck. In triplicate.
Wow, you're really taking this whole thing way, way, way to personally. I understand you don't like the movie, but I really don't see where the constant personal attacks against Johnson are necessary. Please tell me you at least haven't sent him death threats? Although with the way you've been acting on here, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you did.
If they did it with Meyer after Spock's death was leaked, what do you want to bet it happens now? Gah, that makes me so sad.
