I may just be easy to please but I thought Terry as an actress was fantastic and Jadzia as a character was equally so.

There are numerous fanfics in which Seven honestly doesn't see why she shouldn't explore relationships with women, as well. There's one in which she ends up marrying Sam Wildman (yes, Sam is already married, but it all works out). It's an entertaining story, and definitely different from the same old Seven/Chakotay stories in which things either work out or don't. I have read stories in which she and Chakotay live happily ever after, but that's to the credit of a fan author who figured out a way to make Seven more human without losing her Borg edge, and make Chakotay interesting, instead of cardboard.

I always liked Jadzia. They did write in the downside that her previous host, Curzon was almost certainly a more interesting character, though. When you play a character and your lines half the time revolve around "remember 10 years ago when I did that interesting thing in a wild way I would never do now?" it does kind of limit you.

Maybe the sexual adventuring was a way to get around that

I don't think she's bad, I think she's ok. Problem is, in any other Trek series that would've been fine, as there are mediocre characters/actors in each--but not in DS9, where she's overshadowed by the rest of the cast.

I've been rewatching the second season of DS9 and I find Jadzia more palatable in these episodes. She seems less smug and more thoughtful than in the later seasons. In Blood Oath she grapples with Curzon's oath of vengeance and seriously considers the consequence of taking another person's life. Her character is quieter and more circumspect.

This is a surprise to me. It always seemed like Jadzia was a fan favorite, and Ezri was the one getting all the hate. I love both Daxes, but I like Ezri a tad better oddly enough. I usually prefer adventurous characters to shrinking violets, but Ezri is far more developed than Jadzia.

Jadzia was great fun, but we barely knew her. All of her episodes really seemed to be more about the Trill in general. We know virtually nothing about Jadzia the host, and how she and Dax changed each other upon joining. The greatest opportunity to explore this was aggravatingly squandered in "Invasive Procedures," where Jadzia and Dax are separated, but Jadzia is unconscious most of the episode and Dax seems like nothing but a memory bank that Verad stole from her. El lamo.

I haven't been on this board long (I joined two years ago but was not heavily active.) Is there really a lot of hate towards Jadzia? That's a surprise to me too.

I think Terry got the feel for the role by season 3 and season 4 at the latest.

As an addendum to the original question? Am I the only Jadzia/Julian shipper?

No. When the show was on, I thought they were made for each other. Kid logic, they were both slender, fair skinned with dark hair, they both wore a blue uniform, etc.

Then ol' Worf had to cut in.

And in response to the original question: Who doesn't like Jadzia?! Everyone likes Jadzia.

Not long ago, perhaps earlier this year, a man went to a event in Germany that was just a conversation between Terry Farrell and an audience, something intimate. He solicited questions from us in the forum, and I asked him to ask Farrell whether she wanted stories that dealt with Jadzia's background. She shot down the notion, feeling that it would add to an already complex character.

Disappointment, perhaps, but not hate. The most heated debates have been about the particulars surrounding Farrell's departure. I'll let others speak for themselves, but I think that Farrell had some big career ambitions in mind when she negotiated with Berman (whom I believe was being a tool at the time). Her story seems to keep evolving, but I think that there is enough to say that she was concerned about her post-Trek career, fearing lost opportunities. Otherwise, I think that she, with the help of the writers, fell into a groove that made the best of her talents, and it ended up being a better depiction of a woman in Star Trek than Uhura, nuUhura, Crusher, Yar, Troi, Kes, Torres, and Sato. She had some scenes that made me cringe, but on the balance, she made a very positive contribution to the series.

He has a very particular set of skills. Skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people like you. He will look for you, he will find you and he will kill you.
