The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

Sale or no sale, an issue that the X-Men films would always face is what happens when reach the time period of the original 3 films?

Days of Future and it's ending show that the characters age to look like the original actors. The time jumps after First Class were nice maybe once or twice. But it's limited what they can do. Regardless of the visual continuity of the actors appearance, what happens when they reach modern day? Much of the appeal has been an alternate version of history. I have been mostly happy with Fox's X-men films. But maybe it would be best to end the series with events leading to the film from 2000. So the series is a time loop like the original Planet of the Apes films.

Multiple Man is in development, but the four movies I mentioned have been explicitly confirmed for release as per the new agreement that FOX signed with IMAX.

Obviously the finished/filming projects will get released, but I wouldn't bet on any projects yet to lens. Especially Gambit. :)

This won't terminate that Franco Multiple Man film? Damn, that sounded really stupid so I was hoping this would nip it in the bud.

Anyways, DP2 and Gambit probably won't have anything to do with the main X-Men films and probably not New Mutants either. Dark Phoenix will probably be the last time we see the FoX-Men main cast (McAvoy, Fassbender, anyone introduced in Apocalypse, etc).

Kinberg is still obviously a big unknown as a director, but reading the EW article actually made me excited and cautiously optimistic for the movie. Finally, a fully-functioning and established X-team? We haven't gotten that since X2, way back in '02. (And maybe that other movie which shall Not Be Named, but I'm not counting that.) Space stuff? Cool. Magneto living in seclusion with other mutants? About damn time. Chastain promising a script that does right by its female characters? Good signs all.

If, as may be due to the Fox/Disney merger, this is the last hurrah for the classic X-verse (Deadpool aside, but he's already an aside), it might just be an appropriate high note to go out on. Or, maybe even good enough to merit a continuation? Just how many movies can Feige oversee at a time, and for how long?! :p

'03 just to be a nerd.
But yes I agree about wanting to see an actual X-Men movie (and even in X2 half the team are captured by Stryker)
I'd like to see a proper ensemble movie where it's not just focused on one or two X-members and the others are just "we could be anybody" teammates with not much to do.

^ It's already been confirmed that we'll be seeing the release of New Mutants, Deadpool 2, Dark Phoenix, and Gambit, even if/when this Disney/FOX deal goes through, so you are wrong.
Would it really be so hard to put a tiny thread running through these which leads into the end of the Fox-verse, or at least the closing of the loop ?

Apparently, yes it would be too hard. The FoX-Men Production staff are pretty incompetent at this sort of stuff.
Sadly, I agree.

It would only have to be a vision of Jean Gray's / Phoenix of other realities, echoed in Legion, The Gifted etc. and a suitably 'meta' comment from Deadpool. Or maybe something cleverer - these people are pro's !

Speaking of Deadpool - is the smart thinking that Reynolds will be the only Fox castee to transfer over to the MCU ? It's hard to imagine dropping him, but if they don't, what about Cable, Colossus and NTW ? And the recent X-Men like Sophie Turner and Alexandra Shipp ?

Well, Reynolds can stay if he agrees to play ball with Disney. But I say ditch the rest of the FoX-Men cast.

I'd rather have Elle Fanning as Jean anyways. Along with Mark Strong as Xavier and Christoph Waltz as Magneto.

About Magneto... We are now looking at it being 72 years since the end of Nazi Germany, I doubt any full xmen characters are introduced for a couple years. So now we are at 75 years.

Wouldnt Magneto be in his early 80s?

The holocaust is such an important part of his character and his motivation/justification to keep it from happening to Mutants. What kind of backstory will the next Magneto have?

Either they can do something wherein he was in suspended animation for decades and came out of it recently, or some time travel stuff that sends him and Xavier from their time in the past to the future.

Or...they can make him the survivor of another genocide. Like Bosnia.

Being a mutant supremacist who want to make humans his slaves and mutants his subjects, like in the first comics.

This is what I'm thinking. It'd put him at about the right age. Maybe as a young man he had a relationship with the mother of Wanda and Pietro, but she left him without telling him she was pregnant and returned to her native Sokovia, where she later had the twins. And then those two were the only ones to survive Strucker's experiments because of the mutant genes they inherited from their father. Easy.
