    Schrodinger's sarcasm?
If I were Abrams, I'd quit making movies. Not worth the heartache of the constant bash fest. Just ask GL. :/

Johnson says he's played KOTOR and loved it. He's also confirmed his movies won't be a remake of them.
Which doesn't surprise me at all. This doesn't mean his new storey can't be set in the past. He didn't deny that.

Really speaking a direct adaptation of KOTOR just wouldn't work well as a movie. Structural problems aside, the big third act twist is known to most of fandom so they'd be stuck in a no-win scenario of being faithful and surprising exactly nobody, or coming up with a new twist which is doomed to be far less interesting if not outright lame in top of being unfaithful to the source material. Indeed, that twist is kind of the point of the whole story, so they'd be buggered either way.

That said a KotOR or TotJ like setting for a new and original story is probably the safest bet for the RJ's new trilogy. It gives him the most latitude and freedom to tell whatever Star Wars story he likes without having to worry about working around any other projects and visa-versa. A neat trick may be to make it entirely ambiguous as to where in the timeline it's set, so it could be at any point from thousands of years in the past, concurrent with and and all of the existing trilogies or thousands of years after the fact. It'll drive the wiki editors nuts, which may be worth it all on it's own! ;)

I honestly never found either of those to be very interesting stories. Bother characters felt fairly two-dimensional IMO.
For me the character of that bunch that I would like to see something made of is Nomi Sunrider. A single mother and a Jedi? Now that's a backstory with a little more promise.

Well he's good at TV..so that's something he can at least point to. Lost was great for the first 2 seasons.

And yea. The point I was trying to make is some people either love or Hate Abrams directing and ideas. I'm one of those who are mixed in my feelings about his work. Some good, some bad. But TFA..that is an example of the worst things Abrams has done, in my opinion.

So for me, I both like some of his work and hate some of it at the same time and in the same movies.

You're welcome to your opinion, but I just don't get it.

I personally just thought it was a lazy movie that served up the warmed-over leftovers from the OT with little else to show for it. That said I will probably watch the sequels.

I guess I just found a lot more to be invested in with the characters, and really appreciating the beginning of this new chapter with Rey, Poe and Finn.

I can understand Rey, but Poe and Finn? There were the most inessential characters. You can remove their scenes from the movie and absolutely nothing changes in TFA. I hope they have meatier roles in The Last Jedi.

Poe I tend to agree though I like him the most. Finn definitely so. Finn's awakening is as much a part of TFA as Rey's. It's very mythic in its scope and the growing development of the characters.

I would strongly disagree that nothing changes if you remove the two of them.

The thing to keep in mind with Abrams TV works, is that he actually had very little to do with most of it after Alias and/or Felicity. Most of it he did maybe a little bit of early development, directed the pilot and handed it off to other people. Lost is a perfect example of that, it was much more Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse's show than it was Abrams. I don't think he really had much to do with it after the pilot, other than coming back to direct one other season premiere.
Oh yeah, you definitely can't get rid of Finn, his story is just as significant to it as Rey's. If it wasn't for him Rey never would have left Jakku,
I think the main reason Poe's role wasn't that significant is because he was originally supposed to die when they crashed on Jakku. They didn't decide to have him survive until late into development, which is why he just kind of suddenly pops back up later in the movie.

Lots of things could be done a lot better. The OT could have been done a lot better, at least according to GL. That doesn't make the end product bad.

Removing Poe and Finn would rob this trilogy of its romantic subplot.

TFA would have been five minutes better if she'd been left out :p
