should oral sex be depicted in star trek: discovery? hear me out

I would counter the premise of this entire thread by saying: just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Of late, Discovery seems to be heading in the exact opposite direction its "gritty" origins would have suggested, anyway.

How about depicting polyamory between crew members? Would you enjoy a groupsex scene?
I know a couple of poly people now. I imagine in the future, sexual attitudes would be more relaxed than today so while I don't see the neccessity of showing them having sex, why not have a threesome (or more) of officers?

I'm pretty sure there's an ENT or TNG novel where it's happening.

I think showing romance and sex as a normal thing that people pursue is fine. I'm not quite understanding, though, why it would be necessary to depict or suggest oral sex in particular on the show. I mean if it had a plot or character purpose, sure, but just for the sake of showing it? Not so on board with that.

Hundreds of thousands of years of evolution have steered humans towards coupled pairings. Polyamory goes completely against that, which is why it’s rare, and usually ends up with poor results. (Not saying there aren’t any people who can’t pull it off, but it’s rare.)

300 years is a very short time in evolutionary terms, so there’s no reason to believe polyamory will suddenly be successful in Trek.

It’s a slippery slope. Put in explicit oral sex, and next thing you know, pervs will be clamoring for gangbangs and explicit anal sex featuring Stamets.

Pornography always begets more pornography, it’s human nature.
There hasn’t been a society yet, where people collectively say “Ok, that’s just the right amount of porn, let’s hold it here!”

Nope. It always starts with: “Hey, don’t be prudes, sex is natural, nothing wrong with porn!” And a few decades later, you’re dealing with 13 year olds asking about anal sex and whether it’s normal to be slapped during sex.

That's correct but Star Trek was never shy about showing as much sex as they could considering the time and place where it aired. On TOS it was mostly implied but we all knew Kirk had sex often, TNG showed Troi's nipples through a thin gown while an ensign on the bed was putting his shoes back on for example, that's not exactly subtle and all those times Riker was CLEARLY banging some guest character? None of the Riker stuff was necessary for the story, they threw it in because they wanted to and because sex is a part of life, Beverly had ghost sex, they even had a "I want sex" statues on Risa and having casual sex was depicted as normal. There were many scenes of pillow talk taking place either before of after sex on all shows.
Dax wasn't shy about talking about her sex life, Quark had a holobrothel Paris was given "Let's score some chicks before everyone's taken" dialog in episode 3 or 4 of Voyager. Enterprise had Trip and T‘Pol strip to their underwear in the pilot (guest starring Connor Trinneer's bulge and Jolene Blalock's boobs in prominent supporting roles) and rubbing gel over their bodies in scene that was supposed to titillate the audience (if it was about showing a decon procedure they could have been fully clothed with green lighting and a *wheeeee* sound effect for example).

Discovery isn't a broadcast show, FCC rules don't apply, they can show more and how much they should or will is the topic.

Of course a scene like that can feel out of place and inappropriate, if from out of nowhere we see a naked Culber with Stamet's head covering his private parts going to town while nothing else happens I'd be the first to point out the scene was stupid and had no real reason to exist.
If they're shown in bed like many other trek couples, talking about whatever and just have to happen sex as part of the scene, then why not?

Yeah, asking for oral sex in particular is oddly specific. I'm giving the OP the benefit of the doubt and assume it's because it's a bit easier to depict with one character moving out of frame and the camera just showing the reveiving partner. Technically all you need is one actor making *oooohh* and you have a sex scene with not really showing anything.

This whole thing is a litle funny but joking aside..
I havnt seen ONE tv-show or a movie in my entire life that i felt that "a sex-scene" would really lift the plot and make it a better show.

That wasn't evolution, that was society. Biologically it makes more sense for a male ot have several female partners to spread their DNA for example.
Very few mammals are monogamous, none of the apes are. Human monogamy is enforced by societal norms and expectations and it doesn't even really work that well, why do you think so many people cheat? Of monogamy was hardwired into us by evolution cheating would be MUCH rarer.

The only crew member aboard the Discovery I wouldn’t mind seeing a sex scene with is Saru.

And only because I bet his species procreate in a really weird way. Probably a gland of sorts. Or maybe spores.

Well it wasn’t a sex scene per se, but there was an explicit scene in Babylon5 that kinda advanced the plot...

I’m of course talking about the time that Lando used his penis (one of them anyways) to cheat in a game of poker!

I was weirded out by Sulu/M'Ress in the 80's Star Trek comics.

"You know you're very attractive for a human..."

Oh myyyy...!

"Do I have to spell it out for you? It does not even have any..... *motions* attributes!"
"Ah! So you feel you are being symbolically castr- Cast in a bad light?"

Star Trek already gave us a depicting of oral sex anyway. Harry Kim and that one chick. She quite literally blew on him and he developed space-STDs. Which ammounts to getting the shivers and having parts of your body glow.

There's a shot for that now.

Also, Harry Kim follows in the footsteps of Kirk and ends up with a formal reprimand on his record. That's harsh.

This isn't a reality show. I echo the sentiment that there are no cases in TV shows where I thought, gee, a BJ would totally make this scene shine. If I want that type of material I know where to get it, and I'd rather it not mixed with Star Trek.

Simulated semen shots seem all the rage on cable TV shows nowadays... how do we feel about Burnham or Stamets getting jizzed up on the face?
