we all know that this show is much edgier than past trek shows. its not afraid to push a few more buttons and take more risks than any trek before it, as we have seen this far.

sex happens in star trek a lot. hell, in TNG we even saw beverly crusher orgasm in that one episode with the ghost (who turned out to be just an alien)! and of course in ENT we saw t'pol's buttcrack, so there was a bit of nudity there.

if it was done tastefully, and not gratuitously, would you mind if oral sex was depicted between two individuals in this show?
What do you mean more edgy and more buttons? TOS showed black people on the bridge for crying out loud!

Because it's Star Trek. You want kinky or dom stuff, there's other avenues.

You could say though that we shouldn't see romance or have people with sex lives because that is what Rom com's are for. If we don't have moral objections to the very acts then why are they off limits to use? Granted you also don't want things to be so graphic that kids can't watch which means the issue is less about it being used, as oposed to how it is presented.

Your argument is tiresome. Head on over to whatever porn site you like and enjoy yourself.

Why is all sex stuff considered porn? I mean for porn you got to at least have naked people onscreen and that isn't going to be happening on a PG-13 rating. Also I don't mind if they use or don't use oral sex, only that if they do I don't have any moral objections to it as long as it's done in a proper way. I always side on creative freedom over censorship and I will always be open to artist who want to push the envelope. Even if it fails or doesn't work I don't mind because it also might work. You never know until someone does it.

PG-13 films can say "fuck" once as long as it isn't of a sexual nature. Discovery broke that rule already.

That's true. I notice that "Fuck" is becoming what "Shit" use to be in that it was a word you can't say but people are know allowing it more often. Even with "Shit" i'm not certain it can be used as a expression of, going to the toliet but just a general expression of anger. Sex really does seem to bother more people than just about anything. Violence and swearing are fine and even characters who are not very good or ethical people but if it has something to do with sex, that is the thing that makes people recoil the most.

It's got to be because of religion or it's something that people see as private thing in there own life. I think some people would prefer to hit someone with a car by accident as oposed to having a sex tape of them get out in public, also by accident. I kind of feel that way as well but I also try to fight against those feelings because I think it's unhealthy in the long run. I know that from being a perfectionist growing up and even cried when I told my mom I liked girls when I was a kid and frankly it has kind of screwed me up more than if I went around masturbating in public I sometimes think.

Didn’t we see Lt. Keyla Detmer kiss another crew member in the “Magic to Make...” party?

They better be engaged or previously dating otherwise that’s #NOT MY STAR TREK!

I will say that it's interesting that being in a band is still seen as being sexy but on the other hand if your in a band and whoever set up the party chose to go with 300 year old music instead of letting your band play is going to make you feel really bad about your talent.

In the end it's the difference between can and should. Can oral sex be depicted, of course the answer is yes. The OP question was should oral sex be depicted in Star Trek Discovery, which IMHO the answer is no, because we'd gain almost nothing in return for risking the franchise.

ON this point, I do agree. I don't believe much is gained in putting oral sex in to Trek. In my opinion, little was gained with GoT's use of nudity and forever marked that series as something I would not enjoy. Not because I'm offended, but because it takes away from the overall story. The information gained is not sufficient because of the distraction caused.

I'm probably alone in this, but to me, sexual acts depicted rarely feel story driven. They feel very shock driven, which is a distraction in of itself.

I got to agree that sex scene's usually drag down a story for the most part because they often feel like they are tacked on just for some sex appeal. On the otherhand I do think it's kind of important in some stories. I think nude strippers made "Soprano's" feel authentic when we were at the strip club and in "Terminator" you got to have Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese have sex so John Connor can be born.

What I feel is kind of even more outdated than even sex scene's is romantic links between the male and female lead. How many times do we see characters fall in love for no reason or the male hero has to team up with the female hero and they have a romantic history. Why can't it just be a guy and woman who get along and have to work together and if they have a romance it is some backup character that doesn't even have anything major to do with the plot.

I think it would be interesting to see them do it in a zero-G scene, where like Lorca or somebody jacks all over the place and then its floating there in the shot with the camera switching depth of field between the aftermath and the two making out as they hang in midair.

One day, there will be space porn and this'll actually happen.

Hopefully, not for a long, long time.

If somebody wants porn, there's plenty of it out there. No reason to throw Trek on that pile. Seriously.

I want giant schlongs everywhere. I want to see bifurcated Klingon dicks. I want Lorca and Tyler having a mutual jerk-off session as part of one of their male bonding experiences where Lorca still isn't sure he can trust him.

Klingon dicks aren't "bifurcated." Klingons have a complete set of two penises. This was confirmed in dialog via the "redundant organs" comment and confirmed by Rick Sternbach's Klingon anatomy chart in a DVD extra. So it would be dual dicks.
