Discovery Renewed for Season 2

Well, most of this stuff is still made available that way - isn't it? I just meant that it's probably not seen as a major revenue stream in the out-years.

Something set way after Nemesis, and potentially moving the franchise into a completely new direction. The Titans project maybe?
Considering that DSC is a hit, what are the odds that TV execs will willngly go away from what they considier a winning formula? I wouldn't mind seeing something different from DSC, but thinking that we'll get that might be giving the suits more credit than they deserve.

Riker is an old man. His days in the hot seat are ovah.
Whatever they do, please lord, no more Riker. Probably my least favorite character in all of Trek. He had one good moment in TNG, when he told off Jerricho. But that was it. 22

Interesting in that a lot of the market is Neflix (overseas) and that is a tool (creates the budget for further production) to encourage US audiences to join access. Least that is how I'm interpreting it.

The decision is purely money as it's the bottom line. Until the next number crunching exercise ;)
When has a TV show's renewal not been about money, ultimately? There are shows that get renewed for various reasons with ratings that would get most shows cancelled, but these instances are few and far between. And even when it happens, the true motivation is always ...money.

The Get Down was canceled by Netflix after one season...probably because it ended up costing $16 million per episode.
I thought The Get Down got 2 seasons. The second one though, was only 6 episodes. I didn't know about the $16 mil per episode. Any idea why the cost was so high? No Fx, mostly shot on NYC streets.

TV shows now have a tough time on disc. I don't even think they are releasing The Simpsons season sets anymore.

Above the line costs were huge. Producers were getting $$$. Also the show has loads of visual effects to make it look like a period piece, you perhaps just didn't notice. Also it was shot on location, which is expensive too.

It was one season that was split into two parts, then cancelled. FYI I was on the Netflix consumer panel that decided to cancel it.

CBS All Access definitely needs to fix their technical issues. I watched Sunday and had buffering issues and finally got booted out of the show - having to restart it and then rewatch the damned commercials before I could get it back to where I had been watching. Plus - quality was lacking this week (picture that is).

No whines since I'm still getting it for free, but once my $$ are going to CBS All Access, they'd better step up their game.

It's my first streaming service too. Figures I'd pick the faulty one. I do have Netflix now so I'll see how good they are in comparison.

Netflix is a hell of a lot better right now. Although I haven't had any issues with CBS All Access, it is clunkier and less sexy than the Netflix interface. I guess it's the age bracket. :p

I've never had a CBSAA issue either. I've streamed all of DSC, I've watched After Trek both live and recorded, and I've streamed NFL football games live as well.

That said, it sounds like people elsewhere are having issues. I keep waiting for my night of frustration.

Mine first happened last week. It started with the weekly rewatch of the previous episode - would not stay loaded for more than a minute then degraded from there. Gave up, tried the new episode but same thing.

Next day everything was back to normal. ECP service tech chalked it up to high traffic. Am praying tomorrow isn't more of that heartache.

Yaaay season 2!

Yeah, now that you mention it, I do seem to recall the the thing about the chapters. I did notice how much the locations looked like the '70's but it didn't occur to me that that was so expensive. Was hoping you wouldn't say that the producers were getting so much cash. Oh well, the first chapter was pretty interesting.

I have been watching in a Chrome tab on Windows PC, and haven't encountered any technical issues.
My only gripe is that the picture defaults to mediocre quality level, so I have to manually change it to HQ at the beginning, meaning that the first few seconds of the episode always look like garbage.

Well Orville fans excuse for a season 2 is that PBS put too many eggs on one basket, not because discovery is popular. The alt right is really rooting for Orville to be more successful than discovery.

Well Klingons in discovery are portray as Trump and his supporters. So they hate it and are banking on Orville which is produce by the trump supporting Fox to win over Discovery. Kind of ironic and Seth can’t do anything about it even if he notice it.

The Klingons are not portrayed as Trump and his supporters.

Lmao that Seth MacFarlane produces and stars in the Alt Right's favourite new show.

What the heck are you guys talking about? It’s exactly the opposite! The Alt Right absolutely HATE The Orville! There was huge outcry from them after "About a Girl", "If the Stars Should Appear" and "Krill" episodes. They literally called them “libtard propaganda”!
