Its not being renewed because of ratings. Its being renewed in the hopes others will join access. Waste of money if you ask me.
Yeah, no.

There's also a direct sales element too. Whilst I assume subscriptions are bae, they probably don't mind if somebody subscribes and parts with $30 a pop just for the show.Of course they're keeping it going in hopes it will garner more subscriptions. That's what it's for.

Numerous lackluster Starship Troopers sequels would suggest otherwise.Starfleet Marines.

Interesting in that a lot of the market is Neflix (overseas) and that is a tool (creates the budget for further production) to encourage US audiences to join access. Least that is how I'm interpreting it.Its not being renewed because of ratings. Its being renewed in the hopes others will join access. Waste of money if you ask me.

Agreed.Listen to these guys, folks. Nobody really likes or enjoys Discovery. It's all just a conspiracy by CBS and Netflix to make it seem like it's popular when it's really not. I should know, I listen to Midnight's Edge.
So divorced from reality that it's amazing that there isn't some form of alimony involved. Its not being renewed because of ratings. Its being renewed in the hopes others will join access. Waste of money if you ask me.
When its a streaming show, 'joining access' = 'ratings'.Its not being renewed because of ratings. Its being renewed in the hopes others will join access.

He didn't say that, and I think you know it. Of course Discovery is there in the hopes of it driving more subscriptions. That is the only reason it exists. That is the reason Netflix makes its own shows, and the reason Hulu makes its own shows, the reason Amazon Prime makes its own shows, the reason HBO makes its own shows...
I can agree that it was "in the hopes" when it was created like any other subscription based show, but that's not WHY it gets renewed. Game of Thrones doesn't get renewed seven times out of "hope", it gets renewed because of certainty. Discovery got renewed for being a proven success. He didn't say that, and I think you know it. If they thought their subscription level would stay just where it is they wouldn't continue investing money in such an expensive show. Companies don't spend money like this to "maintain," but to grow. They are carrying it on in the hopes that it will continue to drive more new subscriptions.
