Some traditions endure. Most celebrations on Star Trek use imagery and objects we recognize. But I suppose a string quartet and dancing the minuet might be someone else's idea of a good time.Flashing lights, loud music, jungle juice, beer pong. Honestly, I think it's good that the party is recognizably a party. Not every party needs to be a formal event.
Crazy parties and string quartets are both my idea of a good time. Just not at the same time, since that would be weird. I rather like that they're depicting a very contemporary party, but I do hope there's still room for the more classy, refined sort of parties we've seen previously. Maybe that's something the older officers would be more interested in. I don't think anyone in that room was older than mid twenties. Some traditions endure. That would probably depend on the people partying. I imagine excessive drinking, music and a few people getting out of control weren't unheard of.What were parties like 200 years in our past? Not like that one. And future ones will probably be pretty different as well.
Certainly not -- but the beer pong, lights, rap, etc. were pretty specific to our own era. That would probably depend on the people partying. I imagine excessive drinking, music and a few people getting out of control weren't unheard of.
I have bad Social Anxiety. I hate being around most people and don't talk if there's more than one person in the room. Give me a few beers, however, and I'm suddenly talking to everyone. My twitches and anti-social quirks suddenly disappear! And suddenly Tilly is a drunken social butterfly?

Hope they don't go Harry Potter on us. It's a science show.
Star Trek strays all too often into science-fantasy than science-fiction. Always has, always will.Hope they don't go Harry Potter on us. It's a science show.
Well, that was completely shit. There is also a scene preview that was put up on EW.com. This is what I expect out of a party too!

It'd better fucking outlast polka. So hip-hop is alive and well in the 23rd century. Good to know.
Did we watch the same scene?Well, that was completely shit.
Well, that was completely shit.
Supposedly yes, apparently not. I wasn't expecting a cotillion with a chamber orchestra, but I certainly didn't anticipate American Bandstand in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!Did we watch the same scene?
It's a blatant canon violation. It's the Beastie Boys or nothing. So saith the JJ. Hallowed be the JJ.So hip-hop is alive and well in the 23rd century. Good to know.
Been awhile, but I don't think American Bandstand was like that.Supposedly yes, apparently not. I wasn't expecting a cotillion with a chamber orchestra, but I certainly didn't anticipate American Bandstand in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!
Ah.. the Beastie Boys are Hip Hop (sometimes)It's a blatant canon violation. It's the Beastie Boys or nothing. So saith the JJ.
.You have to let people be actual people because that is what this show is doing..
That's true, I suppose, but it seemed *too* modern for me.
And suddenly Tilly is a drunken social butterfly?
Meh.
You got me on that one. But I blame Dick Clark.Been awhile, but I don't think American Bandstand was like that.
