Spoilers Preview images for "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"

Flashing lights, loud music, jungle juice, beer pong. Honestly, I think it's good that the party is recognizably a party. Not every party needs to be a formal event.
Some traditions endure. Most celebrations on Star Trek use imagery and objects we recognize. But I suppose a string quartet and dancing the minuet might be someone else's idea of a good time.

Crazy parties and string quartets are both my idea of a good time. Just not at the same time, since that would be weird. I rather like that they're depicting a very contemporary party, but I do hope there's still room for the more classy, refined sort of parties we've seen previously. Maybe that's something the older officers would be more interested in. I don't think anyone in that room was older than mid twenties.

That would probably depend on the people partying. I imagine excessive drinking, music and a few people getting out of control weren't unheard of.
Certainly not -- but the beer pong, lights, rap, etc. were pretty specific to our own era.

And again, I'm not bothered by it, just nit-picking like we all like to do from time to time. ;)

So those that have a problem with the scene what would you have wanted in its place? I'm really curious here. Keep in mind a party still has to be done (it's either end of the year, maybe a New Years party given how much time has passed in the show). You have to take into account how humans for centuries have held parties through the various ages and this is no formal meet up. You have to let people be actual people because that is what this show is doing. Remember not everyone is Picard and listens to classical period music and even I doubt only listened to that.

Supposedly yes, apparently not. I wasn't expecting a cotillion with a chamber orchestra, but I certainly didn't anticipate American Bandstand in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!
Been awhile, but I don't think American Bandstand was like that.
It's a blatant canon violation. It's the Beastie Boys or nothing. So saith the JJ.
Ah.. the Beastie Boys are Hip Hop (sometimes)
